  • TGIF?!

I’m pretty stoked. I am NOT working at all on Saturday and Sunday… Just going to relax and have fun with Marianna and Craig who are visiting us from Yellowknife.

Canucks playoff game tonight! Go Canucks.

This afternoon we are shooting our yoga video for Stormtech. So right now we are just going over our shots list.

I went down to the gym this morning for a quick workout. There are these 2 lovely older ladies that are in the gym every second day. We are always chatting, they are so cute. One of the ladies actually said, “well next winter, all this construction will be done, what are we going to watch?” haha, she was half serious too. The one thing I notice about them is that they are ALWAYS complaining about their ailments. One of them is walking a 10km in 2 weeks and she already has her route mapped out on how to quit the race early because she KNOWS her foot is going to act up.

I understand as we age.. things change, but I am going to make it my mission to stay young at heart, young in the mind and always talk about how healthy I am, and how good I am feeling. My nana is an inspiration to me. She is in her 80′s and up until 2 years ago- she could still do the splits!! I wrote a lil post on her here. At all the weddings, she is boogying on the dance floor.

Woah, also… you gotta check out this lady! Her name is Bette Calman and she is an 83 year old yoga master!

I have been doing yoga for a long time and I still can’t do these moves..

I LOVE how she is still wearing pantyhose underneath her pink sweat suit!!

Full article here. And Actually, I posted this video on my moms facebook page and now my mom and her boyfriend have started taking up running!

My mom is already an aquafit instructor and she is obsessed with her Zumba classes. When she comes to visit in May, she is doing the Grouse Grind for the 3rd time.

Sometimes I hear my mom say things like, ‘ohh, I’m getting old.” But I try to stop her in her tracks!

I called mom at work today and she said it is snowing in Saskatoon! WHAT? It’s April 15?? Why?

We are looking at a good week here in Vancity. Here she is….

Not to shabby! Great for the Sun Runners, AND for all those in the Delta Triathlon tomorrow (good luck Kelli!!!)

Are you in the Sun Run this year? Beers after? lol

I will be back with some more action soon, I have tons I gotta attend to as of this moment.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend and check back soon! Go Canucks!

  • Hello!
Happy friday and happy April 1st! Any good pranks happen to you?

2 pranks that got me this morning:

Have you liked this site on facebook yet? I would love your support… Just click the “like” button and I will love you forever (and I ain’t April Fooling about that;)

The 1st….the 1st…the 1st….My favourite day of the month…You know why? I get to do an interview with a beautiful, inspiring, groundbreaking woman. If you read Cosmo mag, she would be the equivalent to Cosmo’s Fun, Fearless Female. Except I call her “Tomboy That Wears Makeup Of The Month” and let me tell ya, April’s TTWM of the month is a STAR…

    Her name is Kimiko Zakreski

She is an Athlete, she made 2010 Olympian for Snowboarding….Read on…..
Growing up Calgary, Alberta, Kimiko Zakreski was just old enough to get her first taste of the Olympic spirit at the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. Though she was only four years old when they took place, the lasting impression that they made on her is what sparked her dream of becoming an Olympian herself.

Kimiko started snowboarding over a decade ago on the slopes of Canada Olympic Park, which is located in the heart of Calgary, Alberta. With the Canadian Rockies less then 2 hours from her doorstep, Kimi’s love of the mountains and snowboarding grew quickly. Kimiko trained and competitively snowboarded for 13 years, evolving from Junior National Team to Development Team to World Cup Team and eventually to the 2010 Canadian Olympic Team. Competing and representing Canada on a world stage has always been a huge passion for her.

Kimiko earned her first World Cup medal, silver, in Limone Piemonte, Italy in 2008. She was the first Canadian woman to ever earn a silver medal in an Alpine Snowboard World Cup. She podiumed again in the 2009/2010 season in Telluride, Collorado World Cup earning a bronze medal and qualifying her for the 2010 Olympic team.

She was featured in MTV Canada’s Over the Bolts which followed Kimiko and her teammates’ journey to making the Olympic Team. Kimi is currently working on a new TV production set to begin filming this summer.

Newly engaged to her fiancé Scott Willgress, Kimi has decided to take the 2011 season off from training and competing to focus on her exciting future ahead in her new place of residence, Halifax. Still undecided as to whether or not she will compete in the 2014 Olympics in Russia, Kimi is enjoying the year off from the hectic schedule and demands of being an elite athlete.

As an avid supporter of amateur sport in Canada, Kimiko looks forward to working at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova this February in support of aspiring young athletes.

    Kimiko, snowboarder

That’s a very impressive bio Kimi, thanks for doing this interview, I know your a busy gal. First off, what inspired you to get into snowboarding?

I learned how to snowboard when I was 12 years old at Canada Olympic Park (COP). I absolutely fell in love with the sport and decided I wanted to start racing. It probably wasn’t until I went to junior worlds and competed for team Canada when I decided that I really wanted to snowboard full time and potentially represent team Canada at the Olympics one day.

Awesome. What are some of your goals in the snowboarding world?

Well that is kind of on hold at the moment. I am taking the year off to decided if I want to continue competing or not. It might be time to settle down and start a family but that’s not to say I can’t make a come back. My ultimate goal would be to win a medal at the Olympics.

    Kimiko, snowboarder

Well you have definitely had an incredible career so far, what has been your absolute most favourite experience in your career?

Winning my first world cup medal in Italy. It was snowing so hard that day and both of my teammates Jasey Jay Anderson and Matt Morison also made it on to the podium in the men’s race. It was such a great day for the whole team. Our coaches were so happy and everyone was grinning from ear to ear.
    Kimiko, snowboarder

That champagne is well deserved, lol! That must have been a rush, besides snowboarding what are some other things you enjoy doing?

Yoga, road biking, weight lifting, anything to do with sweating.

Even snow angels? hee hee…Is it all that sweating that gives you such gorgeous skin?? What is your favourite Beauty Product?

Olay’s total effects face moisturizer. It is tinted and has SPF in it too!
And Loreal’s lineur intense liquid eye liner- this is a staple in my makeup bag.

Good stuff! Ok, what is your biggest fear?

    Letting people down.
    What is your favourite quote?
    Fortune favors the brave.

I’m stealing that! That line is so true. What is your greatest achievement?
Making the 2010 Olympic Team! Sometimes I still can’t believe I did it.

What a feat! The 2010 Olympics were absolutely unreal and it is incredible you were one of the athletes! Such an accomplishment.

If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?
That would have to be my best friend on the snowboard tour Johanna Lyle from the Australian Snowboard team. I haven’t seen her since the end of last season because we both took the year off from competing. We have traveled the world together for the last 6 years and since we are from different countries it makes it hard to see one another. We skype all the time though.

Technology is amazing. From Halifax to Australia in real time! Who do you admire?
My teammates Maelle Ricker and Dominique Maltais. They are both amazing athletes who dominate the World Cup circuit. They are passionate about what they do and are extremely motivated and hard working.

What is something about yourself people may not know?
I use to horseback ride and do western horse shows with my horse Apache.

Cool! What is something that makes you smile?
    My fiancé Scott. ☺

Aww, Your getting married!!! Congrats- from one bride to be to another……what do you do to RELAX?
Yoga! Even though I have been doing it for a while now, it still sometimes amazes me how it can effect my mood and energy in just an hour practice.

Well, I suck at snowboarding, but we have yoga in common:)
Kimi, you seriously rock. So cool you are a Canadian too. Thank you SOOO MUCH for taking the time to do this interview. It’s an honour to have you here. Have an incredible wedding girl as well.

See guys… I told you she was awesome! Check out Kimi’s website and join her facebook page!

Enjoy the rest of your day and remember, “Fortune favours the brave!”

I am going to sign the contract to our new place today… Opps, I didn’t tell you yet?? I’ll fill you in on all the deets tomorrow!

  • Hey!

PHEWF! Yesterday was just one of those days. I was a little bit of a Negative Nancy and it seemed that I had challenges one after another. It was just about time for me to go for my run with the club and I was NOT feeling it. Boo, nooo… I wanna stay home and sulk…But I knew I had to go. Cliche story that’s been told a hundred times…but yes,  once I got into the run/finished the run… I felt like a brand new person. I was talking to a couple girls I run with and I was telling them my pre run hesitations. They said that the same thing happens to them… and we concluded that: THE TIME YOU FEEL LEAST LIKE RUNNING/EXERCISING IS WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST! I concur. I think the same is for taking a break when your super busy. If you just WAAY TO BUSY TO TAKE A BREAK, THAT’S WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST.

Speaking of breaks… I booked a hair appointment for next wed… and my hair stylist is in the states (here’s the story of WHY I get my hair done across the border)….In Bellingham… Why not go the day before and make a trip out of it? Am I right or am I right? So ya, we are leaving Tuesday and staying the night in Bellingham to do some shopping, relaxing and me getting my hair done…

I decided to go to a Bikram’s yoga class this morning (the HOT yoga)! It was a HARD class! I had to sit down a few times while the others carried on, I was just too hot and felt like I was either going to throw up or pass out!! Here is a guide of all the moves you do in one class.  You do each move twice. The diagram makes it look easy- but I assure you it’s not!

When I got there and unrolled my mat, OOPS! My yoga mat was filthy from the last time I did an outdoor bootcamp

I did some research online and the best tips I found were:

    1. Wash your mat in mild detergent and baking soda if you have more stubborn stains.  So I pulled out the mildest and only detergent I own (Tide),

    2. Baking soda helps with stubborn stains (which I never ended up using)

    3. Use a scrubber (I would have preferred a scrubber, but all I had was this j cloth)

how to wash your yoga mat

    4. You can put it in the washer on low too, but I used my tub:)

    5. Pour over a bit of your “mild” detergenthow to wash your yoga mat

    6. Put your stopper in and start scrubbinghow to wash a yoga matGood arm workout, hahawash yoga mat

And wipe excess water off and then hang to dry!hang your yoga mat to dry after cleaning

    YAY! Good job! All done:)

Now that my mat is happily dryer in my bathroom, the next time I hit up yoga, I won’t offend any other yogi’s!

I’m going for coffee tonight with Andrea, and Mike and I are going for a coffee right now..UH OH..

We haven’t had a daily affirmation in a while, so here goes… take this one to heart, because you are amazing <3

    Oops, my bad!

    Hey there!!!

Top of the day ladies and gents!

What’s happening today? My day has been going well…despite my little mix up this morning. I’ve been telling Andrea for weeks now.”Yo Girl- come check out this meditation- its’s Super cool, think you’ll like it!” So Saturday morning arrives, I pick her up at 8:20am we drive all the way out to Richmond. (me getting lost on the way cuz we were to busy talking about this, among other things)  We finally arrive at the gates of the temple, park, take one step out of the truck. and some lady out of nowhere- walks by us and says “no meditation today, no til end November.” OOOOPS! My bad. At that moment I remembered Dee telling me she thought they might be shutting it down for a couple weeks due to temple construction. It was just like in National Lampoon’s Vacation, when they went to Wally world and it was closed!!(except we didn’t punch anything, we calmly walked through the temple gardens and smiled and laughed at all the little buddha’s everywhere) best thing, We got coffee, went over to her place and had a nice Saturday morning chat. Then I looked at the time. Ahh-10:16, I have yoga at 10:30, so I rushed off to kitsilano, finally found a parking spot and SPRINTED into yoga. They were shutting the door as I was walking in. I hate being late for things like that cuz EVERYONE stares at you. I had to walk through about 50 people, stepping on their mats- “sorry, excuse me, coming through- hey is there any room over there?” The place was so packed I had to put my mat way around the corner!! It was incredibly awkward at first, but once the class started, I really liked my little spot beyond yonder.

Today was DAY 5 of my 30 day challenge at Semperviva. I am LOVING yoga. It is only day 5 and I am noticing positive changes, body and mind. Have you ever done a Kundalini class before? If they offer this type of yoga near you- check it out. It is such a good workout and energy release. I found a video online that you can download for 8.99 if you don’t have Kundalini where you are. It’s here. There is chanting and mantra’s along with repetitive moves. Be open to it if it is a new thing to you.

Now going  to go meet up with a friend I haven’t seen in a while, but first I must go mail a package off to my future sister in law. I am sending her THE BEST moisturizer in the world. (she lives in Yellowknife and we need to protect her pretty face from the dry and cold!) I have used this stuff since I was 16 years old. It is inexpensive, works amazing and a must have for sensitive skin like mine!

It’s about $10 a bottle. You usually have to ask the pharmacist for it. They keep it behind the counter because it is usually dermatologist referred. They also use it as a neutral compound for topical medicine. So you know it won’t irritate your skin! You can find it behind the counter at Costco,London Drugs, and usually Pharmasave.

Thought of the day (inspired by my yoga teacher) “There are enough mediocre people in the world.” Be different! Be yourself, you don’t need to “fit in”!!! oh..and have fun;)

    Talk to you sooooooooooooooon!! xoxo

ps. no daily affirmation today..cuz it’s up there^^^^^^^^^^ don’t be mediocre! go kick some ass!

  • Heyyyyyy!

    How are ya??

I’m a little sore today from going to bootcamp AND yoga last night. It was so worth it though and I’m doing them both again today.

Ya know, I try to workout at home and do yoga at home, but it’s just not the same as a class. Examples:

    1. If I do yoga at home- I’ll be in “Warrior One” and I’ll be like- “damn, I should run over and get the dishwasher going.”
2.Then we move into a “Downward Dog”- and I’ll be like- “Let me just slide my iphone over here and check that email”
    3. I’ll be doing a cardio video, get bored in 10 minutes and say…”ahhhh, I’ll do it later.”

Sooo, off to the yoga studio I went. It was day 1 for me of my 30 Day Yoga Challenge at Semperviva. I had never been to their studio before- It was the best yoga class I had ever been too. If the next 29 days are anything like the class last night, I will fly through it.
I think a lot of it had to do with the instructor. He was so in tune and had such amazing energy. Out of no where, he would say a quote or inspiring words and it was always at the perfect time. I wanted to walk off my mat and and go give him a high 5! Like right on brother! BAM

The yoga instructor reminded me a lot of my Uncle Len

Here are some neat facts about my uncle
    -he is vegan
-he used to own a book/music store in Edmonton (and still has 1000′s and 1000′s of books and music)
-he played hockey on NHL farm teams in the 70′s
-he’s in his 50′s and can still run for over 2hrs at a time!
-he does yoga outside because he says- it’s a “sun salutation”- we should worship the sun (makes sense to me!)
-when we were really young he bought us Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zepplin shirts for Christmas
-he was the last person to leave the John Lennon vigil in NYC when John was shot in 1980Vigil to John Lennon, Central Park, 12/14/1980
    - he is very spiritual and has taught me so much. (here is is talking to my brother at his wedding)

I got this tattoo in honour of my Uncle!
It is a long story but it has to do with the religion he follows (spiritual/buddha type thing, lol)
My uncle was in the 1988 issue of Tattoo Magazine and you can see, he has the same tattoo

He cried when I told him I was going to get the heart/wings tattoo for him!
Now onto one of the best memories with him:
It was Christmas night and we were going to dinner. Me, Uncle, Mom and my 2 bro’s.
My uncle said that Scream Therapy was huge in the 70′s (John Lennon was a big fan) and he suggested we try it, while we were in the car!! hahahaha My brothers both squirmed at the suggestion, my mom looked out the window trying to ignore him and I said…”HELL YA!!!!” HAHA. So my uncle and I sat in the car and SCREAMED while the boys and mom looked at us like we were nuts!
I have since had some fun screaming episodes at “appropriate” times (like when I saw the Northern Lights in Yellowknife)  Whoo hooo….Another time I was in my truck with my friend Max… He’s a drummer-very primal, I thought he would enjoy it! So we screamed in the the truck.

Don’t take yourself to seriously! Try it sometime;) If your at the Lake, or on a mountain or in your car- DO IT!!!

Do you have an awesome inspiring relative?

Hope your having a wonderful day!!! Lots of love and light to you!
