I am feeling terrific right now. Why? Because today is DAY 1 of a 20 day Green Smoothie Cleanse. It has been just over 1 month from my surgery. If you are just tuning in, you can read about my precancerous cells.

Since finding out about the cells and that I would need surgery, I really started to investigate why we get cancer and so many other diseases in the first place. Through my journey, the deeper I dove into it, the more I discovered that eating a plant-based diet is a HUGE factor in starving off disease.

I became a certified Raw Food Chef, took a 4 week series of classes called Feed Life Starve Cancer, and went to the Ocean Resort Hotel, for a Raw Food Weekend. Here’s a video we made about our experience…

This past month, with all the travelling I was doing, I was NOT on a full plant based diet at all. I tried to make good choices while in LA, we went to Trader Joe’s to get a bunch of salad stuff and got green smoothies from Cafe Gratitude, but the plants were few and far between the Mexican food….

I feel in a really good place right now to RE-SET, get back on track and fuel my body with living enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, and now I present to you my partner in crime for my 20 day Green Smoothie Cleanse:

THE VITAMIX! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that this is THE blender you need to assist you in rocking a plant based existence. I heard time and time again that this blender is a life changer. So, at one of my classes, I was sandwiched between an older lady who was fighting breast cancer and a hip, earthy yoga instructor. They were both Vitamix owners. Simultaneously I asked them, “Does the Vitamix REALLY change your life?” They both looked at me and in unison I got an upbeat, excitable, “YES!”

The Vitamix works ridiculously amazing, it opens up all the cell walls of the greens, so it’s very easy for your body to assimilate and digest the green goodness. It makes the smoothies taste better too since it is blended sooo well and it takes 1/4 of the time it took my other blender that left chunks. I am a happy camper.

For lunch I threw in 2 banana’s, kale, mixed berries and 2 dates for a sweeter lunch.


And dinner, a wack of spinach, 2 dates, banana, lemon and ginger…

Just finished this as I am writing.

I am also drinking Green Tea. Today was also my first day back at the gym since my surgery(It was a rough one!) But I got through it and am feeling extremely optimistic about the next 20 days. I know there will be rough patches, but I also know that when my cleanse is done (on Christmas Day!) I am going to feel amazing. My cells are going to be sooooo happy.

Here’s a couple good recipes to start with.

Dr. Oz’s Green Smoothie

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 2 cups cucumber
  • 1 head of celery
  • 1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 2 apples
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Glowing Green Smoothie by nutritionist Kimberly Snyder 

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 3-4 stalks organic celery
  • 1/2 head of a large bunch, or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
  • 1 organic apple, cored and chopped
  • 1 organic pear, cored and chopped
  • 1 organic banana
  • Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon

I will be giving you more recipes along the way…. Feel free to experiment and come up with your own!


If you don’t want to commit to a cleanse, may I suggest adding a green smoothie to your morning routine?

    Just doing some Sunday night web surfing and caught up on all your postings about the cleanse. It sounds like such an amazing thing to do for your body! I’ve never tried a cleanse before since they can seem pretty intimidating but this looks like one that I could actually manage to do since I usually have atleast one smoothie a day anyways. Can you add things to the smoothies, like matcha green tea or omega 3 oil? What are the basics of the cleanse? Or maybe I missed that posting? Also, that vitamix looks awesome, I think I need to get one now too! From reading your blog I’ve learned quite a bit about raw food and tried to incorporate it more into my diet and as a foodie that’s not always the easiest thing to do. Anyways, please let me know the basics of the cleanse. Is it only smoothies and nothing else or can you eat crackers once in a while or something? Thanks :)

      Hi Natasha!
      Nice to hear from you. So proud of you for going on a cleanse. That is fantastic!!!! Of course you can add whatever you want to the smoothies (well, not ice cream ,lol) but by all means add matcha and flax. I have only been doing smoothies, but any combo I like, mixing up the greens. My shopping list is (organic if possible)-apples, banana’s, frozen berries, dates, frozen mangos, kale, romaine, celery, parsley, cilantro, ginger, lemon, orange, watercress, spinach. (that’s all I can think of) The first 3 days are the hardest, it definitely gets easier. DAY 9 today! I will be checking to see how your doing, good luck. (oh and yes- the Vitamix is amazing!!!) xo

    I have a favor to ask. If you have a scale, could you weigh the ingredients next time you make your shakes and add the gram weights along with the “cups” measurements for each ingredient. I really want to start on this, but I have to make my shakes at work. Being able to weigh out the ingredients would really make things quick and easy. How do you measure cucumbers by the cup? LOL? Knowing how many grams would let me just cut one in half, for instance and throw it in a ziplock bag with the other ingredients and head off to work. THANKS!!!!!!

    Good for you Natasha! It looks as if you are taking advantage of all of the classes and equipment available to you. I’ve owned a VitaMix for over 25 years and can say it has helped us raise three heathy children.

    You have peace of mind knowing what kinds of fresh foods are going into your body. That is especially important now when you are shutting down cancer. You can do it! You mentioned just adding a green smoothie in the am if you are not ready to fully commit. This will show people how easy it is and encourage them to go further. Great post!

    Those smoothies look delicious. Do you mind posting more recipes? Looking forward to tracking your 20 day progress for sure. Don’t forget to post your favorite recipe at end! Nice Vitamix by the way, definitely one of the best blenders, I can tell you for sure your green smoothies would not taste as delicious without one ;)
