Archive: RAW FOOD

  • Hey friends!

Hope your having a glorious weekend. I’ve been getting my “raw on”, as I am taking a raw food instructor course.

Question. Which animal in nature do we most resemble? Dogs? no. Bears? no. Snakes? no. Cougars? no (except I have a bit of cougar in me since Mike is 7 years younger than me…shhh)

The animal we most resemble is a gorilla. (or chimps, monkeys, etc)

Gorillas become big, strong, beautiful creatures by eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

I believe nature has everything we need to become strong, vibrant, healthy beings. Nature doesn’t supply us with Ritz crackers, cream cheese, or chicken wings. That is not to say that these foods don’t TASTE good, because they do… but the more we can base our diets on the abundant live foods mother nature naturally supplies us with- the better. For the earth and ourselves!

The transition off cooked foods is freaking hard! Trust me, I am still in the process, but I do know the way I feel on raw foods is like none other, so the closer I can stick to that, GREAT!

The beauty about raw food is the endless things we can “cook” to make them look and taste like our traditional ways of eating.  I am in the middles of my Raw Food Instructor course and I am LOVING all the things I am learning to prepare to make this transition even easier!

I didn’t get a chance to take as many pictures as I would have liked to today, but check out this raw pizza we made!!!

In a nutshell (pun intended) this is how it’s made:

CRUST:  flax seeds, sprouted buckwheat, red peppers, carrot, celery, garlic..

CHEDDAR CHEESE: pine nuts, macadamia, sunflower seedsm lemon, garlic, nama shoyo, red pepper…

    MARINARA: tomatos, parsley, dates, etc….

TOPPINGS: whatever fresh veggies your heart desires.

    Raw food pizza

We are dehydrating this bad boy overnight, so it will be ready by lunch tomorrow. WOOT WOOT

    We also made raw lasagna…

    Raw food lasagna
    Raw Enchiladas..

Anyone that knows me, knows my obsession with mexican food…so having a mexican option like this is unreal. With the tortilla shells you can also make chips! Imagine..making your own raw chips with fresh salsa and guacamole… (if only tequila were raw….haha)

We had fresh lemon and Goji Berries in our water… Goji is known as the “longevity fruit.” Its unique master molecule polysaccharides and powerful antioxidants fight against free radicals that cause damage on the body.

2 must have items that are now on my shopping list are:

    Coconut Sugar…

    mums coconut sugar

    and Vanilla Bean Powder..
Another thing I am going to be all about now is Coconut water and then using the “meat” to make coconut cream pie! I promise within the next couple weeks I will do a video on how to break these nut heads open and reap the rewards!

    young coconut water, coconut meat

As I’m sure you can tell I am inspired. The Raw Food Foundation is great and I am really loving it. The studio is in the heart of Coal Harbour/downtown van.

It was kind of a rainy day so a perfect day to be inside learning! If you are just learning about Raw Foods and want an amazing place to start… watch this green shake video

    Don’t mind my brown hair….it was a phase… haha

Thanks for stopping by! Hope I have inspired you in some way. That is why I am here. Love you guys!

  • Hello!

I finally got our wedding invitations ordered. It was not an easy breezy or enjoyable task (at least for me). I sent the proof to a couple of my well articulated friends who could help me write out the invitation as best as possible. That helped me big time and now they are being printed.

I watched a cute video of Mike in grade 3 today and it made me wonder if we met when we where little tikes would we still be best friends? Here we are old skool as kids, I have a brown tooth because my older brother pushed me down the stairs when I was 2 and my tooth was bruised brown until it fell out. Oh and I was an aspiring dancer in dancing because my mom forced me. Mike’s just a little cutie with a cool necklace.

Now were big tikes and we ARE best friends and we ARE getting married!! (unless he gets cold feet and runs away)

Here’s my quote of the day…..

One “wish” that turned into a “will” that has changed my path is my new found journey with raw food. I have so much love for raw food and how energetic and alive it makes me. So much that, this weekend, as we speak I am becoming a Raw Food Instructor through The Raw Food Foundation!

We’ve recently made these To do for wraps and stuffed mushrooms that I am going to make for my mom next week and see if I can’t convince her to add a bit more raw food to her diet!

Raw brocoli soup (not my favourite, but I know how good broccoli is for the body)

    Date Nut Torte…

    raw food foundation

So good. I could eat the whole torte…

But I guess we need to share..hee hee… Notice the big bowl of angel hair pasta and marinara being mixed in the background?

Ahhh, best seat in the house..

This morning I took some of my new skills (ha, you don’t need skills it’s so easy!) and I made some:

    1 1/2 cups walnuts

    14 medjool dates

    1/2 cup cacao powder

    1/4-1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder

    Pinch of salt

Process walnuts until fine. Add remaining ingredients. Form into cubes on plate, roll in coconut if desired and refrigerate until firm.

    Here is All you need!

    Throw in the nuts..

    Chop chop.

add in the rest of your ingredients (and please ignore my half chipped nail polish still on from Marianne’s wedding.

I formed them into cubes and put them on a fancy new plate I got as a bridal shower gift… (throw them in the fridge for a bit)

    raw food brownies

    mmm, these brownies are delicious!

    raw food brownies!

Cool plate and scrumptious raw food……

And a really cute dog that lays on the couch while I take pictures of everything.

The face of an angel. How could I love a dog so much?

Ok, back to the classes all day tomorrow so beddie by for me. Thanks sooooo much for stopping by. Have a wonderful weekend.

  • Hello!!

    How was your Monday?

My alarm usually goes off at about 5:30 or 6:00am, but I knew I’d be tired today since I didn’t go to bed until 2am, so I let myself sleep in and I didn’t wake up until about 9am! I was kinda slow moving all day. I had 2 voice jobs to do today, but they weren’t urgent, so I am going to do them tomorrow. (not like me to put it off, but I needed a rest day) I also had a very ambitious goal of cleaning my apartment top to bottom…that also did not happen.

    Things I DID do today:

-got new hot rollers at Wal Mart

-looked into buying new tires for our truck

-finally got tenant insurance (happy now mom?)

    - made 3 templates for wedding invitations. Now I just need to confirm that we are indeed having the ceremony at 2pm (or 3pm) and then I can send to printers!

I also think it’s time to clean out my purse…. I should start with putting my ID in my wallet! Yesterday at the festival, here I am in line for the beer gardens and I could not find my ID for about 3 minutes. I took my wallet apart a couple times, finally remembering that I threw my ID  in my little makeup case earlier (why? I don’t know)

    Live at Squamish

It doesn’t surprise me either that my iphone slipped outta my hands and smashed on the ground:(

    smashed iphone screen

I guess it’s not the end of the world- but still sucks! At the mall I was quoted $120 to fix it with a good quality replacement.

I was so glad that Mike could come with me yesterday too. (and not just because he holds my purse while I take pictures! ha- what a sweetheart <3)

What kind of a face is that?  A rock face? Hardly! Just looks weird. haha

Whistler Water is having a contest soon on who did the best concert coverage (between me and 2 other awesome bloggers) So I am going to need your votes soon! I will keep you posted on when voting happens. You know how much I would appreciate your support! ;)

Speaking of support-today on facebook I noticed that my Nana posted a note on my cousin Val’s page, “I am so proud of my creative granddaughter”. I had to get in on it right away and see what my nana was talking about. Lo and behold, among other cool artistic things my cousin Val does, she made this purse….

    Made of:

old jeans + old shirt + old belt + dollar store dog muzzle = new bag
    homemade jean purse

That is soo cute! So proud of you cousin. She said it was a pain to hand sew the whole thing, but I think this purse is so awesome. Nice work girly. Can’t wait to see you at the wedding. (Side note-I am sooo excited for my wedding!)

In other news- I completed my 30 day Raw Vegan challenge!!!!!!! Here was Day 1, one month ago. The crazy thing is- this “challenge” wasn’t even hard!! I lost probably 10 pounds, I woke up with so much energy, I felt clear headed, inspired and happy. Raw Food is not just a “challenge” for me anymore- it is here to stay. I just love how I feel on Raw Foods and don’t want to stop…

Today I had such a sweet tooth, I needed to fix it pronto, I did a variation of  ”Raw cheesecake”. I soaked some macadamia and pecans for a while, threw them in the processor, added a pinch of salt and some fresh lemon juice..

    raw vegan lemon cheesecake

Then poured in a bit of Agave Nectar.

Packed it into a little serving dish..

    Added some fresh raspberries.

A dollop of raw chocolate sauce and VOILA! A filling, nutritious dessert that I had after a massive salad!

Thanks sooooo much for stopping by! Let’s meet again tomorrow!!! xo

It’s a pretty cool feeling when your wedding dress shows up at your door….and it FITS! WHEWF. I was a bit worried. I didn’t want to have to sell it or deal with not liking it., but it fit, I love it and I am sooo excited to get married!

Thanks UPS dude! You made my day.

I went to Canadian Tire today to get the $19.99 Herb Garden that I saw online… NO one could seem to find it. (ummm laziness too on the staff’s part) But I was like, what -ev.

And I checked out the spice racks. My options were….

So excited. Have a great weekend! xoxo

  • Hey Hey Hey!

How art thou? Good! Good to hear how wonderful you are;)

When our dog is quiet…. you know he’s up to no-good. When I’m busy working away, I finally notice how quiet it is, I’m like “uh oh- trouble!” No matter how much I puppy proof, I end up leaving something random in puppy hemisphere by accident, and the result is usually not good!

Hence, my most recent library book!! Bad Pups!

It’s a pretty good book though. Port Moody public library- can I keep it? haha. I might have to!

    Raw Food uncooking book

Seriously though, how can you get mad at a face like that??????

    bug puppy vancouver

    My goodness.
I have new bloopers for you from a voice project I did yesterday. Oh man, I am a geek (I guess you already know that!)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I’m happy to say I finally made it through this project! It was actually really long. Took a long time! AND it was on my worst subject EVER- MATH!

I went out for another meeting today and they still haven’t fixed up our garage door. It just hangs down and if you have a truck/suv- you need 2 people to get through. 1 to drive and one to hold it open. You can use the other entrance, but that is a hassle too! Get this fixed….

I signed up for my Raw Food Chef Certification!!!!! I can’t believe it, but I did it. It was $1200, here is where I’m doing it:

SO I will soon be teaching MY OWN class! That is the plan. I want to share the love.

I want to make things like this that look as good as they taste…

    Oh these sunburgers…mmmm

I’m pumped. I’ve become really passionate about this- obviously and I can’t wait to share this journey with you!

Tomorrow is my 1 year BLOG ANNIVERSARY!! Holy Moly- 1 year already!!! I can’t imagine my life now without this lil blog….

Thanks for reading, Means a lot. Talk soon! xoxo
