  • Hello!!!

    I hope you had an abundant, joyful weekend (It’s the day after Thanksgiving in Canada)!

    I didn’t get to be with my family this time around but I still had a great weekend. Tonight I am pumped for my 3rd class of Feed Life, Starve Cancer. It is exactly 3 weeks away until my surgery and I am soaking up as much info as I can to live a cancer-free life!

    I was a keener and was one of the first to arrive:)

    In our last class we learnt why dairy is not a good idea when you are trying to starve cancer.

    - It is not nutrient dense, has large amounts of saturated fat, (which suppresses immune function, slows down the body’s ability to detoxify) Dairy contains dozens of hormones, chemicals, antibiotics and the purpose of cow’s milk is to grow a 90lb calf into a 1000 pound animal! Why do WE consume it? You can get all the calcium you need (and more) from greens (Broccoli and Kale are great sources, as well as beans.

    We made a nut cheese!

    I will get you the recipe soon, but the basis of this is macadamia nuts and spices.

    Ate it on a Mary’s cracker, basil leaf, tomato and the nut cheese. It was delicious. I can’t wait to make it!

    Another dairy alternative is Nut Milks. We made milk out of cashews, coconut, hemp and almond.

    Eden used actual Vanilla Bean pods to flavour the milk. It is a great idea to stay as true to the whole food source as possible….

    But I have been using this Vanilla Bean Powder which has been fantastic. I got it at Planet Organic in Coquitlam. I use it for SO MUCH! I heard Whole Foods is about to get this stuff!

    Eden told us about a couple cool websites:
    Eat Local is about finding fresh produce at local markets in BC, it also has an awesome list of what produce is in season during what months. So cool! 

    The other site is Still Tasty. Keep it or toss it? A great guide to how long you should let something hang out in your fridge. Or you can use the “When in doubt, throw it out” method..

    Tonight is week 3 for the course. Tonight we are covering the dozen Starve Cancer super foods and Simple Delicious 15 min entrees. Woot Woot! I found out about these classes at They are wonderful.

  • Hey familia!

    Today flew by. I woke up, did my journaling, went for a 30 minute run, did some paperwork..

    Then I jumped in the truck to help my lovely friend Diana move out of her place downtown. She was sad to say goodbye to downtown. (I remember that feeling when we left downtown- I still miss it)

    We worked hard all day getting things cleaned, boxed and moved… By the end of the day, I was in need of some energy! I decided to try a “max veg” from Jugo Juice. It has beets, carrots, ginger, apple juice, celery, cucumber ,spinach and green pepper in it. I thought it was good and it gave me good energy but it had soooo much pulp in it. Shouldn’t they have a  really good juicer at “jugo juice?” Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, but I wanted more juice=less pulp. (celery pulp is BLECH)

    This evening I went to listen to author Vesanto Melina speak at Banyen books in Kits. (Nice photography huh? I focused on the people’s heads and not the author. She is a lovely and very knowledgable lady who has written many books on vegetarianism, veganism and raw.

    I enjoyed her presentation, but I had to sneak out early. I was tired from a long day and there was 1 person in the audience who would not be quiet. Bless this persons heart, they were only trying to be heard, but I was getting annoyed and I left…

    But not before picking up a couple books first..I had heard the Everyday Raw book was really great and the other one was just pretty and colourful so I bought it…… $55 later…….It’s an investment in moi!

    Know what I really need to invest in? A SPA day! I am thinking next week sometime.. I am due.

    Now I will make an investment in myself once again by sleeping.

    How was the weekend? I am reporting back to you as a certified raw food chef! I am so excited! Who’s coming to my first class? I am thinking I will set something up at the community centre to start… and I’ll go from there. Out of the whole “raw food” lifestyle, what are you most interested in learning?

    It tasted like it could have been a real pizza, but I didn’t have that thug full lethargic feeling after!

    We talked and I need to cut back on my coffee consumption. Going to transition to some matcha tea to start (and TRY to cut back on the java)

    A really cool aspect of the class is where WE the students each have to get up and teach a recipe! We picked out of a hat the recipe’s we would have to make, I got the Mock Salmon Pate… It went really well. Here are my Mock Salmon Pate ingredients..

    Just got home to this little bugger who was desperately wanting me to tell him about raw food attention and liver treats..

    I am shooting (and starring in) a video in the morning with SKN clinic! So I NEED my beauty sleep…Even though I mioght not get as much sleep as I would like tonight….

    Even I look like crap in the morning, I will put on some confidence! lol

    Hope your having a glorious weekend. I’ve been getting my “raw on”, as I am taking a raw food instructor course.

    Question. Which animal in nature do we most resemble? Dogs? no. Bears? no. Snakes? no. Cougars? no (except I have a bit of cougar in me since Mike is 7 years younger than me…shhh)

    The animal we most resemble is a gorilla. (or chimps, monkeys, etc)

    Gorillas become big, strong, beautiful creatures by eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

    I believe nature has everything we need to become strong, vibrant, healthy beings. Nature doesn’t supply us with Ritz crackers, cream cheese, or chicken wings. That is not to say that these foods don’t TASTE good, because they do… but the more we can base our diets on the abundant live foods mother nature naturally supplies us with- the better. For the earth and ourselves!

    The transition off cooked foods is freaking hard! Trust me, I am still in the process, but I do know the way I feel on raw foods is like none other, so the closer I can stick to that, GREAT!

    The beauty about raw food is the endless things we can “cook” to make them look and taste like our traditional ways of eating.  I am in the middles of my Raw Food Instructor course and I am LOVING all the things I am learning to prepare to make this transition even easier!

    I didn’t get a chance to take as many pictures as I would have liked to today, but check out this raw pizza we made!!!

    In a nutshell (pun intended) this is how it’s made:

    CRUST:  flax seeds, sprouted buckwheat, red peppers, carrot, celery, garlic..

    CHEDDAR CHEESE: pine nuts, macadamia, sunflower seedsm lemon, garlic, nama shoyo, red pepper…

    MARINARA: tomatos, parsley, dates, etc….

    TOPPINGS: whatever fresh veggies your heart desires.

    We are dehydrating this bad boy overnight, so it will be ready by lunch tomorrow. WOOT WOOT

    Anyone that knows me, knows my obsession with mexican food…so having a mexican option like this is unreal. With the tortilla shells you can also make chips! Imagine..making your own raw chips with fresh salsa and guacamole… (if only tequila were raw….haha)

    We had fresh lemon and Goji Berries in our water… Goji is known as the “longevity fruit.” Its unique master molecule polysaccharides and powerful antioxidants fight against free radicals that cause damage on the body.

    2 must have items that are now on my shopping list are:

    Another thing I am going to be all about now is Coconut water and then using the “meat” to make coconut cream pie! I promise within the next couple weeks I will do a video on how to break these nut heads open and reap the rewards!

    As I’m sure you can tell I am inspired. The Raw Food Foundation is great and I am really loving it. The studio is in the heart of Coal Harbour/downtown van.

  • Hello!

    I finally got our wedding invitations ordered. It was not an easy breezy or enjoyable task (at least for me). I sent the proof to a couple of my well articulated friends who could help me write out the invitation as best as possible. That helped me big time and now they are being printed.

    I watched a cute video of Mike in grade 3 today and it made me wonder if we met when we where little tikes would we still be best friends? Here we are old skool as kids, I have a brown tooth because my older brother pushed me down the stairs when I was 2 and my tooth was bruised brown until it fell out. Oh and I was an aspiring dancer in dancing because my mom forced me. Mike’s just a little cutie with a cool necklace.

    Now were big tikes and we ARE best friends and we ARE getting married!! (unless he gets cold feet and runs away)

    Here’s my quote of the day…..

    One “wish” that turned into a “will” that has changed my path is my new found journey with raw food. I have so much love for raw food and how energetic and alive it makes me. So much that, this weekend, as we speak I am becoming a Raw Food Instructor through The Raw Food Foundation!

    We’ve recently made these To do for wraps and stuffed mushrooms that I am going to make for my mom next week and see if I can’t convince her to add a bit more raw food to her diet!

    So good. I could eat the whole torte…

    This morning I took some of my new skills (ha, you don’t need skills it’s so easy!) and I made some:


    1 1/2 cups walnuts

    14 medjool dates

    1/2 cup cacao powder

    1/4-1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder

    Pinch of salt

    Process walnuts until fine. Add remaining ingredients. Form into cubes on plate, roll in coconut if desired and refrigerate until firm.

    Here is All you need!

    add in the rest of your ingredients (and please ignore my half chipped nail polish still on from Marianne’s wedding.

    I formed them into cubes and put them on a fancy new plate I got as a bridal shower gift… (throw them in the fridge for a bit)
