• Hello!!!

I ran a Half Marathon this morning! Woo hoo. Mike and I woke up around 6am and went to Tims for coffee, then we got ready for the race and did some stretching in the apartment. We realized we didn’t have headphones for our ipods, so on the way to the Start Line, we stopped at Shoppers to buy headphones. I got the $5.99 pair and Mike had to get the $24.99 pair! What a guy….

    buying headphones
At the Start Line, racers were doing little exercises, I love how the elite athletes have their own special clothing “drop off”, so they stay warm right before they start and shed the final layer right before the gun goes off… We were not so lucky! I didnt have to layer down today, but normally I just bring an old sweater and throw it away, (they usually donate tossed clothing to charity)

We also did some filming for a cool video we’re making! Thanks to our friend Dominico for tending the camera…

Then… We were off! It was a great race. Vancouver is so beautiful, the scenery is amazing, I surprisingly saw lots of people along the way that I knew- I ran past my friend Dee’s apartment and she happened to be on the balcony and got a shot of me!

She said she just happened to step out at that time, and I just knew I was going to see her. It made me smile!!!

I was sooo thankful for my ipod. It really got me through the 22km. Each song played it’s part… I put hearts beside the songs that for whatever reason was exactly what I needed to hear at that given time… It was right around the 10 mile mark that my body was freakin tired and I wanted to stop, then Hard Sun by Eddie Vedder came on and something happened in my heart. I was right beside the ocean, I felt such a sense of peace and strength over me and I knew I could finish this race….

    half marathon playlist

It was a really empowering feeling, I started to move my feet a bit faster…. The last song I heard before finishing was Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas.

I also kept thinking of tips that Coach Lara has told us during running workouts:

-look ahead at where you want to go

    -run tall

-relax your shoulders, neck and jaw

-keep your arms strong, but your hands relaxed

    -quick feet

-keep your form and follow through with your strides..

    (Thank you Lara!!!)

So, like my title says, my wings got me through the first 10 miles and my heart got me through the last 3 miles.

It’s also funny how the most random things can motivate you. There was this girl running in front of me for a while and she had her ipod in and she was playing “air piano” to whatever song she was listening too. I’m all about air guitars, air drums (Mike does this CONSTANTLY), but for some reason her “air piano” was annoying me, so I mustered up some fierce energy to leave her in my dust, lol!!!

At the last mile- I caught up to Mike!! We finished within seconds apart. My time was NOT my best time by any means… I crossed in 2hrs, 3 min…but it was my first half marathon in years… and I haven’t been marathon training, just triathlon training…so I was fine with my time… Watch out next race!! haha

    first half marathon finish line

    Yay! The finish line!!

After catching our breath, we went into the community centre and got some soup and bagels while they awarded the winners.

    first half, roundhouse community center

    ahhh, rest

I should probably start stretching eh??

We jumped in the hot tub as soon as we got home. I am pretty darn tired at this point, but I am so happy with how today went. It was just awesome.

Are you signed up for any races this season??? What is your Ultimate Running Song??

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! Thanks for stopping by!!!

  • Ahhhh,

One year ago today, my mom, Michael and I were sitting in one of many jam packed bars in Downtown Vancouver, watching the 2010 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies. I had no idea what to expect and to my surprise, the Olympics were a billion times better than I ever thought they would be. It. was. Magical. (I don’t like putting periods after individual words like that, so if I do it- you know I’m serious!)

We were sitting in the bar watching the ceremonies and right outside the street Wayne Gretzky drove by with the torch, going to light the Cauldrin.

I think it was within the moments of the Opening Ceremonies, that we Canada and Vancouver knew what we were getting into!!!!

I was so happy that my mom got a job working Security during the games so she was here the whole time…

There was always something to do during the games, somewhere to go and something to see…

Mike and I were on a different mission during the games… It wasn’t to be drunk the WHOLE TIME….

We played a rock show at the Plaza of Nations

AND we wanted to make a music video to one of our songs to document the games.

A video that we would never forget. We had lots of help….

Tons of inspiration all throughout the city

Everyone in the city was your friend!!!!

The torch went right past our apartment

(the mitts on the inukshuck were sooo freaking cute)

When CBC found out about our video, they did a segment on us that made the national NEWS!!

    Say the right things…. lol

Mike and I roamed the streets, meeting amazing people who were kind enough to star in our video. (I wrote the song…Okay, I wrote the lyrics and melody..Mike wrote the music), but I thought this song…the words, and the vibe fit perfectly to the magic time we were surrounded by….

I know many of you have watched this….but watch it again….People from all around the world pitched in, to make this video possible. Thank you world, for sharing your love and light…..

AHHH, the memories… What did you think of the 2010 Olympics here in Vancouver? Have an AWESOME DAY!!! I’M OFF TO GRANVILLE ISLAND!

Love and hearts and butterflies and HUGS!!

  • Happy Friday! Happy Friday! Happy Friday!

I must say- I needed that sleep last night. By the end of the night yesterday, I felt like I was going a bit crazy. I was just such an insanely busy day. I don’t want this blog to be a “woe is me” complaining platform, so I choose not to mention- that sometimes I’m not always positive and sometimes really stressed. I felt like I couldn’t keep up with everything on my plate. I paused for a moment and thought- “Is this what it’s about?” I worked so hard to get to this point and I’m pulling my hair out? I said to myself, Calm the Beep down. Why take things so serious? If I want to manifest all my dreams and goals, I have to be able to handle what is given to me at any given time. Isn’t there that saying- “you will never be given more than you can handle?” It’s so true. You only live once- DON’T take things so seriously Amanda!! Have FUN… PLAY! (there I said it…it’s behind me now;)

Another saying I like is “The moment you don’t have enough time to take a break- IS WHEN YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK!” Isn’t that true? Mike and I might go to Seattle for the night on Monday. Just to chill out and have a mini vacation.

I really feel AMAZING today though! I went down to my gym for a run and a bit of weights (I ran at 6mph for 30 minutes)

Then I came upstairs and starting reading my emails. (one of the companies I get lots of my work from) sent this stat sheet over in their daily newsletter:

I thought it was pretty neat to see how well this online company is doing! I went to the main page and there I was- the #1 Top Favourite female! I am usually in the top 10, but it’s always fun to be #1!!!!!!

Woo Hoo! I am right up there with Deb Munro (one of my coaches) and Janice Downes (the voice-over QUEEN). Persistence and hard work does pay off! I may not be a rock star (which was my initial dream) but I am absolutely in love with my job. “AH HA”!!!! LOL

What are you up to this weekend? Here is a breakdown of some of the stuff I am doing:

    1. Filming and completing the video we are doing for Stormtech… (more info on that coming…..)

    2. Going on an ‘Insiders Tour” of Granville Island. I am doing some craft making, beer tasting, dinner at Sandbar, boat ride… stuff like that. This is going to be a hoot. (We will be doing some more filming of this as well) I always have fun on Granville Island. Here I am at the Chocolate Festival, tasting beer and chocolate!

    mmm, Granville Island Beer

    3. Running a Half Marathon on Sunday! Well, I’m more like walk/running it. I talked to my coach and we came up with a plan. Since I haven’t been marathon training per say, my coach advise that I run 9 minutes, walk 1, run 9 minutes, walk 1, and do the whole race like this. I think that is a good idea. I want to feel good after this!!

    4. I have 3 friends that are playing music tonight (at 3 different venues).. PLUS another friends birthday dinner. Not sure what I’ll be able to attend, but I’m gonna try.

OOOH, I almost forgot…any Valentines Day plans??? Do tell, do tell! Like I said might go to Seattle for a night on Monday, or we may do nothing, it will depend if we can wrap up some jobs first.

    Talk sooooooon!!!!

  • Hello!

I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic of “back in the day”. Anyone else remember those carefree days? The most important things to me “back then” were:

-how much tip money I made so I could blow it on clothes and beer

-where my next “gig” was and what I was going to wear

    -where’s the party tonight?

Here is a picture of me and my friend Marq. Us on stage a while back;)

Now I’m still not “Mrs. Responsibility” (Mike pays the bills, takes care of accounting, benefits, rent, etc) I’m kinda still a kid in that aspect… However the “Now me” thinks about things like:

-how much money I earn and where we can invest it

-how can I set up passive income streams so I can achieve financial freedom

-my kitchen is to small, we need a bigger kitchen so I can cook more

DID I REALLY JUST SAY THAT??! YUP… The “Now Me” in our SUV.

I wouldn’t change anything though. I’m super happy and grateful with how my life is going. Ya just can’t help but miss “the good ‘ol days” sometimes;)

Let’s go back to yesterday, but by “yesterday’ I mean feb.5… It was a nice morning and I took a few pictures as we walked to Tim’s and got our Saturday coffee.

Mike sitting on a bench, with the construction zone behind him…

Our apartment (view from the beach)

beach towers, beach ave, 1600 beach ave

pretty lil flowers still grow in the winter here

I went whale watching, OMG- I SAW A TALE!!! woo hoo

    whale tale, carved, wood,

Fast forward to today. LIKE NOW… I just went for a run in the pouring rain with my club, went for a quick swim and am now drinking this

Healthy goodness to counterbalance the beer and goodies I’ll be having at the Superbowl gathering we are going to;)

But first- I need to voice 35 pages for my new job.  I will leave you with this video..

Hearts and kisses and love and butterflies! Have an awesome footbally afternoon!

  • Happy Friday!!!
Usually weekends don’t feel like weekends to me because I usually work them- but it actually kinda feels like a weekend! This is going to be goood!!

Today Mike and I had a meeting at Stormtech Performance Apparel. I have done a fair amount of work for them in the past and I am eagerly excited to say- we may continue to do some more work! I have been in their catalogue, voiced their phone system and even did some hosting for them.

Mike and I have been given the challenge to “test drive” the new Stormtech XBR-1. We are going to go hiking, running and exploring while wearing them in windy and rainy climates and document our thoughts. As soon as we got them home we ripped open the jackets out of the plastic bags- fresh with creases and all. I got the XBR-1 in electric blue:

Mike got the jacket in Black (I have the Black one too;)

We picked up our jackets at Stormtech Showroom in Burnaby, BC

Pretty waterfall behind the Reception Area

Here’s a shot of some of the Stormtech Athletes on the wall. What if I got good enough at triathlons, to be a sponsored athlete? That would be a dream. I have always been obsessed with very athletic people. Maybe because I was always “good” at sports, but never “AMAZING”, I always admired those who had that natural ability. (Like my team mate all through high school- Chelsea Grimson, or my sister in law Nicole, etc)

    stormtech athletes

Here I am waiting in the reception area. I started reading a National Geographic, but there was some gory pictures of a goat getting worked on by a doctor… Props to you smart people who read NG, but I threw it down and cringed a bit.

With my new 18 month contract in voiceover work, I will most likely learn a thing or 2! I am voicing/”teaching” 2 subjects! My first module is on plants, and flower and the angiosperm life cycle of plants.

    NEAT-O mosquito!!!

Well I best be running…. well not running right now…I’m driving to another meeting. 4:45pm is when it starts. Smack dab downtown during rush hour on a Friday. This should be fun….

Have an AWESOME weekend. I can’t wait until we meet again (how does tomorrow sound??)
