  • Hello!

    Today I went exploring outside for an episode of The Nature of Things with Amanda Suzuki. Hauling my camera around “ain’t no big thang”… but it’s still kind of a obstacle, especially with a crazy dog.

    The annoyance factor gets REALLY high when you go to take your first award winning shot and the memory card is sitting back in your computer at home. BOO.

    Well, thank goodness for iphones….

    I took Painter on a big stroll around the neighbourhood. It was such a beautiful day.

    After a good Kilometre running along the muddy shoreline. My dog was wet, tired and DIRTY!

    As soon as I got home, he was thrown into the bath…

    It’s been a good weekend. I have relaxed quite a bit these last 2 days, which is great. I am usually go, go, go. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and am trying not to get too stressed out….Of course the wedding plans have been a big brain space filler, and my upcoming surgery next week is another weird force that fills up your brain with too much thinking.

    Thoughts in my head about my surgery:

    -why am I even worried?

    -what if they find something really bad?

    -why did I get this?

    - am I feeling sorry for myself?

    -what right do I have even feeling bad for one second when so many others are going through way worse?

    -I know I need to eat a plant based diet, but sometime I just don’t want to care about what I eat?

    -how will this change my life?

    -I want to have kids, but maybe not right this second, but if I don’t do it this second will it be too late?

    -is this even a big deal?

    And on and on and on…

    To the right of my computer I have an oracle card that states I am a powerful healer, but then my appointment card hits me in the face, I try to remind myself that this VERY MOMENT, is all that counts. Yoga is good.

    Hmmmm….as Gwen Stefani says…”I’m just a girl in the world….”

    In non-emotional news I also went to Costco today. We have a HUGE family of 2 humans plus 1 dog to feed, so we NEED a Costco card, haha…

    Anyway…I picked up some nuts..

    What? Nuts in the fridge?

    Yep. Something I have learned in the last 6 months is that we should keep our nuts in the fridge. They do go bad just like any other perishable food. So I fill my handy mason jars for my day-to-day use and I keep the fat bag of nuts in the crisper…

    Tomorrow I am thinking Brownies with the walnuts and almond milk with the almonds! OW!

    I got 2 boxes of the arugula/spinach mix of greens. Making green smoothies all week baby!


    I wish I could have got local greens, but these California greens will work.

    This is me, after my 4th day in a row doing Birkram’s Yoga! Here we go again!! (This is my 2nd year in a row doing a 30 day yoga challenge)

    It’s hard to dress for Hot Yoga, well basically it’s wear as little as you comfortably  feel wearing. Since I choose not to wear the panty looking shorts that some gals sport, I am LOVING these flex yoga shorts from Stormtech. They are the perfect hot yoga shorts.

    I sometime just wear a sports bra on top, or a sports bra and light tank top… I still drip buckets of sweat no matter what I wear though!

    In other headline breaking news, I washed my makeup brushes today. The were a bit muddled from doing makeup for 5 girls yesterday.

    I dab the brush in a bowl of baby shampoo, then wet it a bit and move the brush back and forth on my hand until I feel it is clean. Then rinse it off in water (I just keep a small stream of warm water running)

    Shape them back to the shape they should be in and place them flat to dry, preferably with the tip hanging over the edge.

    Then I moved on to taking these awesomely ripe bananas (when they are spotty is the best time to consume them because all the hard-to-digest starch has turned into an easily absorbable masterpiece for the body)

    I peeled them and put them into the freezer to throw into my green smoothie in the morning.

    Eww, I dislike that old kitchen…. But the shake is a game changer!

    I need to fill this awesome fruit bowl back up (bowl was a gift from my mom- good score hey?). Going to get groceries after yoga in the morning:)

  • Hello!

    I finally got our wedding invitations ordered. It was not an easy breezy or enjoyable task (at least for me). I sent the proof to a couple of my well articulated friends who could help me write out the invitation as best as possible. That helped me big time and now they are being printed.

    I watched a cute video of Mike in grade 3 today and it made me wonder if we met when we where little tikes would we still be best friends? Here we are old skool as kids, I have a brown tooth because my older brother pushed me down the stairs when I was 2 and my tooth was bruised brown until it fell out. Oh and I was an aspiring dancer in dancing because my mom forced me. Mike’s just a little cutie with a cool necklace.

    Now were big tikes and we ARE best friends and we ARE getting married!! (unless he gets cold feet and runs away)

    Here’s my quote of the day…..

    One “wish” that turned into a “will” that has changed my path is my new found journey with raw food. I have so much love for raw food and how energetic and alive it makes me. So much that, this weekend, as we speak I am becoming a Raw Food Instructor through The Raw Food Foundation!

    We’ve recently made these To do for wraps and stuffed mushrooms that I am going to make for my mom next week and see if I can’t convince her to add a bit more raw food to her diet!

    This morning I took some of my new skills (ha, you don’t need skills it’s so easy!) and I made some:

    ONE BITE BROWNIES

    1 1/2 cups walnuts

    14 medjool dates

    1/2 cup cacao powder

    1/4-1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder

    Pinch of salt

    Process walnuts until fine. Add remaining ingredients. Form into cubes on plate, roll in coconut if desired and refrigerate until firm.

    Here is All you need!

    add in the rest of your ingredients (and please ignore my half chipped nail polish still on from Marianne’s wedding.

    I formed them into cubes and put them on a fancy new plate I got as a bridal shower gift… (throw them in the fridge for a bit)

    Woke up at the crack of dawn to hit up the Coquitlam Farmers Market.

    Apparently, we can’t afford travel coffee mugs, we took our java to go in our regular mugs…. (I must have inherited this from my mother, step foot in her car and she has regular mugs everywhere!)

    Your gonna start thinking I’m strictly a food blog, but I’m not. Although, I just happened to attend a “Raw food for Beauty” un-cooking class at Indigo Food Cafe today.

    Upon arriving the cafe was very inviting.

    Owner of Indigo Food, Lovena Galyide used to be an architect. She discovered Raw Food and became so passionate about it, she quit her job and opened up a raw food cafe in Vancouver on 16th Street. She really knows her stuff too. I am a hard sell, lol, but I was following her every word..

    I was going to pick up this guitar and serenade everyone during the class, but I decided to stay hush.

    LADIES! IF YOU WANT HEALTHY, GLOWING SKIN, incorporate these foods into your diet:

    - Aloe Vera Juice (the yellow leaves taste a trillion times better than the green. But use green for skin!), Nettles, Arugula, Watercress, Burdock Root, Turmeric, Coconut, Cucumbers, Durian, Figs, Hemp Seeds and Oils, Macadamia nuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Radish, Olives, Onion and Papaya.

    The first skin elixor we tasted was orange, papaya and aloe vera juice. Tasty. No issues here.

    Add bottled aloe vera juice to your morning juice/shakes if you can’t get aloe vera fresh.

    Another Beauty Tonic. This was made with Burdock power, Apples, and celery. I need to get my hands on some burdock root (not for taste, but for health benefits)

    We got into some raw fermentation of coconut. I was not a fan. I know the probiotics are good for you, but I don’t like the taste of fermented coconut, no matter how much agave you add!

    I will start drinking coconut water though… more to come on that!

    Here we have dehydrated kale chips. yum. Remember I used to bake them all the time? I’m not against baking at all, but if they taste just as good dehydrating- why not save some nutrients? So I actually have a batch in my oven (which has a dehydration feature- OMG- score!)

    Add arugula and watercress to your salads!! It is fabulous. Also on our plate was raw falafels (made with pumpkin seed and a million other things, I couldn’t write everything down fast enough- but I still want to get the recipe)

    Durian. A fruit I hear all about- but never try… These ones were dehydrated. Apparently amazing for skin.

    Again, I learnt a ton today. I am becoming more passionate about raw foods everyday.  Day 7 of my raw food celebration and I am feeling FANTASTIC!!!  At 8pm I still felt the same amount of energy I had when I hopped out of bed this morning. It really is amazing how this lifestyle makes you feel! I can’t wait to continue this…and learn more along the way..

    This is a moment only dreams are made of…haha.

    When we checked into Ocean Resort last weekend, I found out I had a massage that same evening. We were in kind of a rush to make it to the first Raw Gourmet Dinner, so I quickly changed. I was wearing a g-string, but I wanted to put on granny undies since I was going in for the massage. (No masseuse wants to see my romping cheeks) So I put on my granny undies, but when I pulled up my pants, I guess my g-string hung on!!!!!

    HOW EMBARRASSING!!!

    Even funnier is that Mike was filming for a video we are making and he didn’t even notice… (unless he’s really just evil and I don’t know it, lol)
    I walked in and met a table full of people I didn’t know.

    I was also getting up to take my plate to the window so I could get better lighting for pictures.

    I didn’t notice it until way after dinner when I was in the spa about to get my massage. I was like, “what the?” Then it all came together when Mike and I were going through the footage we took and THERE IT WAS! WOW….. I mean, I’ve had a sock hanging out of my pant leg before- but NEVER a g-string out of the back of my jeans!! That is one for the books.
    I’m sorry if that was TMI, but I had to share… Life is to short not to laugh these things off!

    As for more subdued blog material, today was Day 4 of my Raw Food Challenge Celebration. I am going for 30 days!  Some people ask me, so what do you have to do to be 100% RAW? I was reading choosingraw.com today and Gena, the blog’s author says it best,

    “I’m not 100% raw and don’t aspire to be: my goal is to get a wide array of nutrients from as many delicious, plant-based sources as I can. Exclusively raw diets work for some people, but many others find them either nutritionally or psychologically limiting. I do, however, believe that most people can experience tremendous health benefits from adding more raw food to their diets. The title of my blog, then, evokes a lifestyle that encourages us to eat “close to nature,” and and encourages to make choices every day that emphasize raw food.”

    Well said Gena. I couldn’t agree more. Everyone has there quotations and limits to what is “raw”, but really it’s what you make it. Eat as close to nature as possible. I must say though, I have been feeling great!  I miss cooked food when I make it for Mike (today I made him an omelet and then some pasta) Or when I see Mike put cream and sugar in his coffee and mine is black..

    During my challenge, I am trying not to think of what I can’t have, I am trying to see all I CAN have…

    That’s about all I got today! I went to a nice yoga class at the REC centre across the street and am winding down for the evening.
