  • Hello!!

This is a moment only dreams are made of…haha.

When we checked into Ocean Resort last weekend, I found out I had a massage that same evening. We were in kind of a rush to make it to the first Raw Gourmet Dinner, so I quickly changed. I was wearing a g-string, but I wanted to put on granny undies since I was going in for the massage. (No masseuse wants to see my romping cheeks) So I put on my granny undies, but when I pulled up my pants, I guess my g-string hung on!!!!!

    HOW EMBARRASSING!!!

    g-string hanging out of pants

Even funnier is that Mike was filming for a video we are making and he didn’t even notice… (unless he’s really just evil and I don’t know it, lol)
I walked in and met a table full of people I didn’t know.

Here’s a shot of the room minus the people.

    beautiful ocean resort

I was also getting up to take my plate to the window so I could get better lighting for pictures.

Half avocado with salsa and raw cracker

I didn’t notice it until way after dinner when I was in the spa about to get my massage. I was like, “what the?” Then it all came together when Mike and I were going through the footage we took and THERE IT WAS! WOW….. I mean, I’ve had a sock hanging out of my pant leg before- but NEVER a g-string out of the back of my jeans!! That is one for the books.
I’m sorry if that was TMI, but I had to share… Life is to short not to laugh these things off!

As for more subdued blog material, today was Day 4 of my Raw Food Challenge Celebration. I am going for 30 days!  Some people ask me, so what do you have to do to be 100% RAW? I was reading choosingraw.com today and Gena, the blog’s author says it best,

“I’m not 100% raw and don’t aspire to be: my goal is to get a wide array of nutrients from as many delicious, plant-based sources as I can. Exclusively raw diets work for some people, but many others find them either nutritionally or psychologically limiting. I do, however, believe that most people can experience tremendous health benefits from adding more raw food to their diets. The title of my blog, then, evokes a lifestyle that encourages us to eat “close to nature,” and and encourages to make choices every day that emphasize raw food.”

Well said Gena. I couldn’t agree more. Everyone has there quotations and limits to what is “raw”, but really it’s what you make it. Eat as close to nature as possible. I must say though, I have been feeling great!  I miss cooked food when I make it for Mike (today I made him an omelet and then some pasta) Or when I see Mike put cream and sugar in his coffee and mine is black..

During my challenge, I am trying not to think of what I can’t have, I am trying to see all I CAN have…

    …like frozen blueberries..

    frozen blueberries as a snack

Or these lettuce wraps I threw together.

    avocado lettuce wraps

Mushed up garlic, onion, avocado, tomato, and red pepper.

    guac with red pepper

The were super quick and SUPER tasty.

That’s about all I got today! I went to a nice yoga class at the REC centre across the street and am winding down for the evening.

How was your day? Any embarrassing moments you’d like to share??? Please do!!! ;)

  • “Be the change you want to be.”

    Simple to do? or Hard?

I think it’s easier once you get there, but it’s extremely hard to get there… That’s why events like this retreat can really help kick-start and rejuvenate you- body, mind and spirit.

I am always striving to better myself in all areas of my life- health, wealth, spirit, quality of life, etc. If you want to give yourself a boost in the right direction, I highly recommend doing something like I have this weekend at Ocean Resort.

Started the morning with a zen/hatha/yin type yoga class.

    It was refreshing.

    Yoga at Ocean resort

Then we were back in the dining hall for breakfast. Green shakes hit the spot.

Another Raw meal- soaked oaks with berries and cashew/almond milk with a serving of fresh fruit.

    ocean resort hotel and spa

After breakfast we had a little break to chill out and then back for some Gourmet Raw Cooking Classes. Here are some Raw “meat”balls about to go in the dehydrator.

    meatless meatballs

I’m going to get the recipes for all the stuff we made and shared it here. Our teacher was the amazing chef Carol, who is also a certified Raw Chef. I am going to get certified as a raw chef somewhere, somehow.

Check out this Raw Meal- Fresh Cabbage from the garden, with tomatoes, orange peppers, fresh zucchini cut into angel hair strips.  and our meatless meatballs made out of cashews, basil, onion, (and I forget what else)

Here’s the fresh cabbage from the garden.

    Onsite garden..

I came in our hotel room to load some pictures and Painter had hacked my facebook account. Lol

    puppy typing

This place has been fun for him because we don’t need to leash him and he can rip around the yard. Our dinner RAWsome, ofcourse (I’ll share pictures later) We also went in the steam room and infrared sauna.

I’m just so beat it’s time for bed. I hope your having a beautiful weekend and I will check in with you tomorrow.

Thanks sooo much for stopping by. Lots of love.

  • Hello there!

This is a happy, positive blog, but I briefly have 2 complaints….

I rushed to Long and McQuade music store last night to get a desk top mic stand before they closed. I got home and opened up the box and it is missing a bunch of pieces….

Looks like a metal plunger!!  That’s all that was in the box. What the heck am I going to do with that???? GRRRRR

Then last night, I went to Whole Foods to willingly pay $700 for a head of lettuce just because it is organic and good for me. The cashier put my lettuce at the bottom of the bag and pilled cans and stuff on top. Not only did my $700 lettuce get crushed- on my way to my vehicle the handle ripped off the bag because it was packed too heavy and the groceries fell to the ground…

Here’s a picture I took when I was still happy and the food was sliding down the belt:)

    food from wholefoods vancouver

Things in my overstuffed grocery bag:

very expensive overpriced frozen blueberries, to add to my:
    Steel cut oats
    Amy’s Soup
Soup Broth to make my own veggie soup….ohhhhh
    frozen veggies (peas, brocoli, spinach)
    chick peas
    black beans
pitted dates, dried cranberries and nuts to make my own energy bars
    firm tofu
    “crushed lettuce”
    some other veggies
    pirates booty (fun snack)
rice cakes (I’m gonna make my own almond butter so I need something besides apples to put my butta on!
Mustard (I wanna make veggie burgers as soon as I have time)

My first grocery shop of the year was a success. Now…If I can only eat this good all year….lol

See….now I’m happy…talked through my frustration and we are moving on!

It is DAY 1 of my triathlon training today. I got 7 downloads from my coach Lara, including my training schedule, hydration and nutrition tips, a breakdown on training zones and intensities- (which will be good, and challenging for me because I only have one intensity level- SLOW.)

My swim this morning was 4 x 250m at a light intensity. I calculated how far that is in my dinky pool- 48 COMPLETE LAPS! WOAH.

I did it! 48 laps this morning. Took me about an hour.  (hot pic I know…)

I am ALSO running today with the club at 6pm, it’s our first run together (we are not wasting ANYTIME getting into this program, lol)

I will most likely start doing 2 posts per day now. One will be just a regular ol post and the other will be a training diary of some kind. I made a new triathlon training link, so follow along- heck even join in. There is still time!

After the swim, I came upstairs ravenous- I invented a new shake! I call it:

    48 LAPS

    frozen berries
    frozen spinach
    half of a frozen banana
    Vega Powder
    freshly squeezed lemon and oj

    Blend and Serve!

Here’s me layering the frozen berries and spinach (first time I have EVER put spinach in a shake)

Then added half a frozen banana and the Vega

Next up I squeezed some lemon and OJ into it (you could use any juice- the fresher the better!)

Add some water and BLEND ER UP And VOILA, the “48 Laps” is ready to inhale!

It tastes delicious and I feel GREEEAAAAT. (take that Tony the Tiger- Meow!)

How is your year going so far? Any grocery store shopping adventures?

I better get onto some work! Hope all is well in your world! Talk sooooooon:)

  • Hello!

Confession time! I did not hike or do yoga yesterday:( It would have been day 6 of my challenge). I actually drove all the way to the mountain and my body said-NOPE- not doing it today. I think it’s extremely important to listen to our bodies, so I don’t feel tooo bad. I ate processed food too..(just one of those days!! Bla)

I just got back from Hiking today though! ( I have a conference call for a voice job this am so I can’t do yoga, i’m going to try later:) See, having a backslide is okay, just make sure you don’t slide for to long. Stop yourself and pick yourself back up and get back on your path!

So the best way to get back on your path is to start the day right! Have some good wholesome food energy to keep you going.

Here are some examples of what I eat for breakfast:

    1. Steel cut oats with blueberries

    2. Mmmm, raspberries

    3. These are my home made Lara Bars.

I am going to do a more detailed blog on these soon, they are amazing and really this is all you need: (you can make any flavour you want, really:)

    4. And last but not least I have a Vega shake.

So what I do is I take a scoop of this powder, and blend it with frozen strawberries, blueberries, freshly squeezed oj and half a banana! The powder has 100% of all your recommended daily vitamins, PLUS- green food sources. It is the ultimate drink!

So that’s pretty much a bunch of breakfasts fit for champions like us!

What do you eat for breakfast?

  • How are you? That big smile looks great on you;)

I acted on some inspired thought last night and decided to attempt a healthy, yet filling, tasty, unprocessed snack. I got the idea to make these when we were out the other night at a hot spot here in Van called Chill Winstons. We ordered the yam chips with spicy hummus and as soon as it came to the table, I said…”hey I could make that!”

    -Heat your oven to 375

-Take 2 or 3 yams and put them through your food processor slicer on high (so they are nice and thin)

-massage the slices in a bit of evoo, sprinkle on some kosher salt and lay them on your baking sheet

-put them in the oven and bake until crispy (about 50 min), and flip half way through

    Then make the hummus

-take a can of chic peas,

    -juice from one lemon,

    -1 tablespoons of tahini paste,

-2 cloves of garlic (or more if you love garlic like me;)

-throw in some cayenne pepper and franks hot sauce if you like a kick

Then mix this in your processor for about a minute. be sure and add a bit of water in the mix if you find it’s too thick- (I saw one video on youtube, where the chef added soo much water, but add what looks right to you.)

They tasted as good as they look!

    soo good and so easy!

Now, I am NOOOOO cook by any stretch of the imagination, BUT I really am on a mission to eat healthier, wholesome foods. I have already lost a couple pounds:) Just from cutting out sugar, dairy and any other processed crap that has a list of ingredients taller than me!

Now I need to step the fitness back up. I find with huge projects, I let the fitness slide because I tell myself I need the energy to put into voicing. BUT isn’t it like an unwritten rule, that when you exercise you actually have more energy? So I went for a 10KM run this morning and it just validating that YES, working out is WORTH IT, no matter how busy you are!!

This is me back from the run, with yet another healthy homemade snack! I made my own Energy Bars!! I will give you the recipe soon!!!!

consists of dates, walnuts, cranberries and baked bananas!

    Enjoy your day:)

Do you have a healthy snack you’d like to share? I love new vegan/and or raw food ideas!!!
