  • When is the best time to buy budgies? When they’re going cheap ! haha, I thought I’d break the ice today with a bird joke in honour of the thousands of birds I saw today when I was out and about. There were hundreds of them just hanging out and flying around together

    Who leads these packs? Is it all instinct or is there a leader?

    I know the perched on the ledge, cone head man would have LOVED to chase those birdies!

    Ha. Today we dropped the videos we made in LA off at Stormtech! They previewed them all and loved them! Woo hoo. It sure was a great trip. Just may have to go back soon….

    Today was day 3 of my Green Smoothie Cleanse. It is going well. NOT a breeze, but I am pushing through. Day 3 already? Well that’s sure good… I made a video about what I’ve been up too…Enjoy!

    Eating coffee? Tastes Magical? Mistakes left in and all. tee hee.

    While I was out and about running errands, I picked up a couple tea’s. The “cleanse” one has Nettle in it and I heard it is good for the skin. (It also says on the box-’to purify your skin”)

    When your on a cleanse, tea’s are like a treat. I have been enjoying them.

    Happy Monday!!!

    2 things I’ve been asked about via email lately and I was inspired to write about them today. First off, someone asked me about my vision boards. They are super easy to do and they are a wonderful tool to bring you closer to your goals/dreams…. How do you create a vision board?

    YOU SIMPLY:

    1. Get a wack load of old magazines

    2. Cut out things that you are drawn to and that inspire you

    3. Glue or tape them to cardboard or a frame

    4. Put it up somewhere you will see it daily

    5. Look at it everyday and envision the things on it as yours. Imagine it. Feel it. See it.

    This one below is an older one Mike and I made together…. (I kinda cut off Mike‘s side to respect his privacy. You can see mine though, lol…)

    Then while I was attending raw chef school. We were to fill out these ones as a homework assignment. This is what I came up with…

    HOWEVER! If you want a little help creating your goal map. Check this out that I found for you!!! It’s some instructions and templates that you can print out and make you own!! Or you can just do it the way I explained at the top. (magazines and scissors baby!) Again, here is an awesome, helpful Goal Mapping Link (by Brian Mayne)

    I really want to have a vision board party like these ladies did at Travelmamas.com (Wine and vision boards? Sounds fun! Anyone in?)

    OK, the second thing I’ve been asked lately are tips on losing weight. I really don’t know much other than what has “worked” for me. I use the term “worked’ loosely because I am NOT perfect or even close to eating perfect 100% of the time, but since I’ve been into raw foods- I have definitely noticed results.

    RANDOM TIPS:

    1. From the stuff I have been learning, it says that so much of our food consumption is emotional. We are mentally addicted to the foods we eat, even though so many of them do nothing for us nutritionally.

    2. In order to have something we’ve never had before- we have to do something we’ve never done.
    I’ve lost 10 pounds since I started incorporating more raw foods into my life.(and that is just a bi-product- my energy and mental clarity is really amazing right now)

    3. Don’t beat yourself up, or do anything drastic, just make a decision in your mind that you are going to do it and you WILL do it.

    4. I love writing down my thoughts, goals. You could write, “I am sooo happy and grateful that I now fit into all my skinny jeans”, Or “that I know weigh x amount” Invision yourself at that weight and see and feel it. The more you feel it, the more it will become your reality.

    5. Try to have a shake for breakfast, reach for fruit, or something like carrot sticks and homemade hummus for snack,
    If you like salads- make one everyday!

    6. It’s really important to stay away from white foods (I know it’s hard! My mom was just in town and it was cinnamon bun central over here! lol) But white foods (sugar, flour, rice, bread) ONLY make us more hungry. Their is NO nutrition in them, and our body is starving for nutrients, so it just gets hungrier. Most of these overly processed foods are actually toxic to our systems and that’s why we gain weight. Our fat cells store these acidic toxins and our body won’t let them go.

    7. Basically just try to eat as many “whole”, real foods as possible. Whole grain rice, legumes, fruits, veggies, (free range meat? if you eat meat), steamed yams..stuff like that.. .

    8. Of course, exercise too. That is a given. We not only need to move our bodies to keep our weight down, we need to move our bodies to starve off diseases (such as the damn cancer thing).

    9. Be happy! I try to eat well, but I don’t get upset if I eat cookies, nachos, or beer now and then. I’m always striving to be as healthy as possible and make the choices that count, but we are on earth a short time, so you gotta have some fun. Have a good life. Be happy! Smile….

  • Hello!

    I finally got our wedding invitations ordered. It was not an easy breezy or enjoyable task (at least for me). I sent the proof to a couple of my well articulated friends who could help me write out the invitation as best as possible. That helped me big time and now they are being printed.

    I watched a cute video of Mike in grade 3 today and it made me wonder if we met when we where little tikes would we still be best friends? Here we are old skool as kids, I have a brown tooth because my older brother pushed me down the stairs when I was 2 and my tooth was bruised brown until it fell out. Oh and I was an aspiring dancer in dancing because my mom forced me. Mike’s just a little cutie with a cool necklace.

    Now were big tikes and we ARE best friends and we ARE getting married!! (unless he gets cold feet and runs away)

    Here’s my quote of the day…..

    One “wish” that turned into a “will” that has changed my path is my new found journey with raw food. I have so much love for raw food and how energetic and alive it makes me. So much that, this weekend, as we speak I am becoming a Raw Food Instructor through The Raw Food Foundation!

    We’ve recently made these To do for wraps and stuffed mushrooms that I am going to make for my mom next week and see if I can’t convince her to add a bit more raw food to her diet!

    This morning I took some of my new skills (ha, you don’t need skills it’s so easy!) and I made some:

    ONE BITE BROWNIES

    1 1/2 cups walnuts

    14 medjool dates

    1/2 cup cacao powder

    1/4-1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder

    Pinch of salt

    Process walnuts until fine. Add remaining ingredients. Form into cubes on plate, roll in coconut if desired and refrigerate until firm.

    Here is All you need!

    add in the rest of your ingredients (and please ignore my half chipped nail polish still on from Marianne’s wedding.

    I formed them into cubes and put them on a fancy new plate I got as a bridal shower gift… (throw them in the fridge for a bit)

    Woke up at the crack of dawn to hit up the Coquitlam Farmers Market.

    Apparently, we can’t afford travel coffee mugs, we took our java to go in our regular mugs…. (I must have inherited this from my mother, step foot in her car and she has regular mugs everywhere!)

    Your gonna start thinking I’m strictly a food blog, but I’m not. Although, I just happened to attend a “Raw food for Beauty” un-cooking class at Indigo Food Cafe today.

    Upon arriving the cafe was very inviting.

    Owner of Indigo Food, Lovena Galyide used to be an architect. She discovered Raw Food and became so passionate about it, she quit her job and opened up a raw food cafe in Vancouver on 16th Street. She really knows her stuff too. I am a hard sell, lol, but I was following her every word..

    I was going to pick up this guitar and serenade everyone during the class, but I decided to stay hush.

    LADIES! IF YOU WANT HEALTHY, GLOWING SKIN, incorporate these foods into your diet:

    - Aloe Vera Juice (the yellow leaves taste a trillion times better than the green. But use green for skin!), Nettles, Arugula, Watercress, Burdock Root, Turmeric, Coconut, Cucumbers, Durian, Figs, Hemp Seeds and Oils, Macadamia nuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Radish, Olives, Onion and Papaya.

    The first skin elixor we tasted was orange, papaya and aloe vera juice. Tasty. No issues here.

    Add bottled aloe vera juice to your morning juice/shakes if you can’t get aloe vera fresh.

    Another Beauty Tonic. This was made with Burdock power, Apples, and celery. I need to get my hands on some burdock root (not for taste, but for health benefits)

    We got into some raw fermentation of coconut. I was not a fan. I know the probiotics are good for you, but I don’t like the taste of fermented coconut, no matter how much agave you add!

    I will start drinking coconut water though… more to come on that!

    Here we have dehydrated kale chips. yum. Remember I used to bake them all the time? I’m not against baking at all, but if they taste just as good dehydrating- why not save some nutrients? So I actually have a batch in my oven (which has a dehydration feature- OMG- score!)

    Add arugula and watercress to your salads!! It is fabulous. Also on our plate was raw falafels (made with pumpkin seed and a million other things, I couldn’t write everything down fast enough- but I still want to get the recipe)

    Durian. A fruit I hear all about- but never try… These ones were dehydrated. Apparently amazing for skin.

    Again, I learnt a ton today. I am becoming more passionate about raw foods everyday.  Day 7 of my raw food celebration and I am feeling FANTASTIC!!!  At 8pm I still felt the same amount of energy I had when I hopped out of bed this morning. It really is amazing how this lifestyle makes you feel! I can’t wait to continue this…and learn more along the way..

  • Hello!!

    Woke up this morning with a list of to-do’s (yes, even on a Saturday) BUT, after a walk to Tim Hortons this morning Mike and I were bickering a bit about what to do.. Work, or enjoy the day…. Well, the play side of my brain fought the work side of my brain and the PLAY side won!! Woo hoo, congrats play side!!

    So we went to Walmart, bought 2x Explorer 2000′s (fancy name for- CHEAP DINGY’S), took a quiet path to a quiet area of the lake, inflated the little buggers and jumped in!!!!

    We tied them together.

    The only thing about the “eat” part of the day is that I am on Day 6 my Raw Food challenge Celebration and while Mike is taunting my by saying, “Don’t you just wish Swedish Berries were raw?”

    I lined it up on my dingy to see how long it would sit there until- it either fell, or some crazy bird came and attacked us for it.

    When we came home, I stopped by the store and grabbed some zucchini’s, to make zucchini pasta in my spiroli!

    It was sooo long, up to the sky!

    I picked up a whole fresh basil plant for only $2.99 to make the sauce with.

    All fresh, raw ingredients….. Tomato, garlic, basil.

    And here you have a raw meal….

    I enjoyed it with a glass of wine and now I am watching Puppy Sos online. (I’m such a geek!)

    I’m going to a Raw “cooking” class tomorrow at Indigo Cafe In Vancouver, followed by a friends BBQ…
