  • Hello!

    Thanks for stopping by…

So Mike got a cool gig working with the camera crew on a Sci-fi movie called Tazmanian Devils. (“Winnie” from the Wonder Years is one of the stars…she is all grown up now though:) So anyway, it leaves me to produce my voiceover work on my own. I am 100% cool with working on my own, and sometimes I really like it and find it rewarding to complete a job myself from audition, to back in the clients hand- to a 5 star review. BUT other times…..when I am busier than I have ever been in my entire life- A girl could use some help.

I have an amazing editor from LA that we found who helps out from time to time. I email him files to edit when I am too busy. He is fast, produces good work and is trustworthy (I don’t even listen to the files once he sends them back to me. I just know they will be good)  Outsourcing means less money in our pocket per gig… but I as sure as heck can’t edit it all myself, so he has been a life saviour this week.

Yesterday for example- I had over 12 (7 page) scripts to voice for a geometry course I am doing and 14 scripts for the University of San Francisco. Then I got 5 other scripts (2 from my agent, 2 from voices.com and 1 from a client) to turnaround within hours as they were all marked *ASAP, even *URGENT. haha. So ya, it’s been crazy.

I am not complaining though. I spent hours meditating and visualizing for this moment to get here…and it is here! This is my job!

I usually voice in my sound booth, but when I have long scripts, I have to voice at my desk so I can stop and start recording when I mess up (and I MESS up! lol) When I tell people what I do- some people don’t have a clue what I am talking about and other people think “ohh, your sooo lucky!”. I kinda smirk inside, because if they watched the countless hours and persistence I put into this career- They would say, “ohh, your soooo hardworking!”

LUCK is when OPPORTUNITY and HARD WORK meet. It’s a happy marriage….

Usually about once an hour Painter is bored and wants me to play with him. He stares at me and lets out these little wimpers like, “Hey….I’m over here…hey.. look at me…I’m bored, can we play?”

    Can you play with me?
My sister in law posted this cool video on my facebook page today. This is basically what I do. I haven’t got any subways *yet* (I almost got the China subway) But I have voiced emergency situations and airplane directions. My only observation is- How can she voice and HOLD the script? It must have just been for the shot.

    Cute hey?

Speaking of cute… check out these vases I got from Moskatels in LA. These are for the Wedding….. ahhhh…. Ohhh ya I’m getting married…. I am going to Saskatoon this weekend to iron out the rest of the wedding details..

    Moskatels

I need to stay calm…calmer….Everything will get done and I will be A-OK….

Maybe I need to drink more Green Tea…

OR SHOP MORE! I got this Tarte kit at Sephora for $40, I don’t LOVE it. The lipstick and blush is awesome (I would buy the Tarte Lip stick on it’s own) but the stick highlighter and powder highlighter is so so.. (haven’t used the liquid stuff yet)

I also bought Korres foundation. Basically bought it because it had an “Best of ALLURE’” sticker on it. I have only worn it a few times. I think it’s going to be good. Still feeling it out. It is long lasting which is nice, it is a light buildable foundation..

Another purchase I got was these Chinese Laundry boots from Nordstrom. I have them deep in the closet so Painter doesn’t destroy them before I even wear them…

    $99 at Nordstrom.

Well, thanks for listening to me half vent/half talk normal. 50/50…give a little, get a little….haha…

Hope you are doing splendid. Keep following your dreams and never ever ever give up!

    xo

  • Hey!!

How are you? Excited it’s Friday? I know I am!!! OHHH YA! It’s supposed to be a nice one too.

They say you are most like the top 5 or 6 people you spend the most time with. So it’s our best interests to spend time with those whom we admire and aspire to be.

That’s why, when I get a chance to be in the presence of successful, passionate, creative, kind and supportive people- I chomp at the bit because those are all attributes I aspire to be.
Last night a big hitter in the Canadian scene was speaking at a very local restaurant (like across the street from my apartment!). His name is George Moen, he is the president of Blenz coffee, among a gazillion other businesses.
It was fabulous to get out and network in my new city and get a chance to listen to George’s wise words. He basically said things that I have heard before, but it is always awesome to hear them from someone else’s perspective.

George’s in his own words (Georgemoen.com)

    “Pursue Your Passion

  • Work at something you’re passionate about.
  • Don’t do something just because you can.
  • There’s no point in doing something if you don’t love it.
  • Become an expert.
  • Work to a Plan

  • Think big, but …- Develop a detailed plan and a budget. Avoid overwhelming yourself.
  • - Focus on 3 to 4 specific goals for a year. Monitor your results quarterly.
  • Once one goal is complete, add the next
  • Have a Mission

  • You need to have a Mission Statement to be “On Mission”.
  • Act out your Mission Statement.
  • “On Time, On Budget, On Spec”
  • If you say you will, you’d better.
  • Fail Forward

  • Do it rough until you do it well.
  • Don’t be afraid to fail.
  • Businesses fail … People don’t.
  • Pursue a Debt-Free Life

  • Debt is an anchor.
  • Put away the chequebook.
  • If you knew how it felt to be debt-free, you’d work harder!
  • Diversify

  • Develop multiple streams of income.
  • Always Be A Student

  • Read.
  • Network.
  • Be a great listener.
  • Embrace Change.
    - The only constant is change.
    - Only pursue change if there’s a clear and obvious benefit.
  • Develop discipline.
  • Network

  • Find genuine support.
    - No one can win alone.
  • Team with like-minded people
    …to amplify your efforts.
  • Surround yourself with a great virtual team.
    - Virtual Teams are the structure of the future.
  • Network without expectation
    - Your Network is your Net Worth.
  • Don’t grow a hero complex.
  • Mentor

  • Give some of your time and effort to someone else.
  • You’re only as good as what you give.
  • This is something you can do just because you can.
  • Never, Never, Never Quit”

Holy great advice hey???? MAN! I love it. Thank you George for your wisdom and inspiration.

If you have people in your life that are non-supportive or holding you back, it’s hard to do- but maybe now is the time to release them? Life is to short to waste it spending time with people who are negative, jealous, and unsupportive.

OK! enough serious talk. TIME FOR MY HAUL! HA.
I went to Sephora this morning and brought back some goods.

nars, evian, laura mercier and mua

Holla! Look at all that Gold! If you are going to buy Laura Mercier’s famour tinted moisturizer, may I recommend just getting the kit? It’s $25 more, but you get the AWESOME concealer, brushes, primer, powder puff. <3laura mercier tinted foundation kit

Then I got Makeup Forever’s HD foundation in #128

I got it in a shade darker because I know I am going to tan. So for now, I will use it as a contour foundation. Check out this video to learn how to contour your foundation. You can use powders too to contour!

Next up, I got the Lavanilla rollerball perfume. I totally copied Jenny Fletcher who was June’s feature Tomboy That Wears Makeup of the Month. In our interview she said she liked it- I smelt it and fell in love!lavanilla rollerball

Had to pick another of my favourite blush ever.

    orgasm blush

    Gotta love the name, haha.

And last but not least, I got some Evian water sprays to throw in my *new* purse as a refresher. (new purse below)

Here is the new super inexpensive purse I got at H&M. $15 and will do the trick for now. As long as it holds my camera, I am good!

    Here was breakfast. Nice hey?

And that’s all she wrote folks! I am smiling LOTS today. Mike had a good meeting at Stormtech, wine festival in Osoyoos next weekend. Just feeling blessed for a lot of things.

Love you mom- have a good weekend camping (trailering) and call me Sunday.

    Talk soooooooooooooooon. Happy weekend…..

  • Hey!

Tuesday eh? Anything exciting going on? For me- just busy voicing projects and I just went for a very light swim earlier. Mike and I are getting ready to go for a trip to Saskatchewan to visit our families. One thing I have GOT TO DO before I leave tomorrow is clean up my apartment. I don’t like coming home from a trip to a messy place.

I also want to wash my makeup brushes. The most effective method of brush washing for me is using baby shampoo and laying them flat to dry. I anticipate I will be doing makeup for a couple family members here and there during the trip;)

I went into Sephora recently and GUESS WHAT? My friend Sherry that I went to makeup school with made the 2011 Sephora PRO Team! She is in NYC right now for fashion week doing makeup for all the BIG Fashion Houses! I am sooo proud of her! She was chosen out of 1300+ makeup artists to make the team of 14! Holy Moley!

Here’s us in makeup school…nothing like a hair train to pass the time… (notice how no one wanted to sit in front of me? haha)

So, now that Sherry is BIG TIME… You can bet your bottom dollar that when I saw her a couple weeks ago I picked her brain on everything that she has learnt and what some of her favourite Sephora products are these days.. Here is what she said to buy… (Keep in mind my makeup kit is about 50 pounds, so these are things I don’t already own)

    1. Tarte Eye Liner

I like it, it is waterproof, nice intense black and has that aqua look. My only problem is that I like to blend over it with a thin eyeliner brush because the precision isn’t immaculate, but it is definitely a good purchase!

    2. Givenchy Instant light Concealer

This concealer is good for dry skin. Not good for blemishes, but is a nice under eye concealer that adds some brightness and cuts our purple bags.

    3. Nars Laguna Bronzer

Hearts and kisses all around for this bronzer.. It is beautiful. Has a nice light shimmer.

    4. Clinique Redness Solution foundation

Holy Cow, I can’t believe Sherry convinced me to buy Clinique! I normally DO NOT like anything from this brand.. but Sherry converted me… (at least with the foundation) My skin normally has a bit of redness and this foundation worked well, at a very good price. Still NOT my favourite foundation by any means, but a nice addition to the kit and good for makeup clients too!

    5. Nars multiple stick in Portofino (Sherry was getting mad at me, cuz I kept calling it Portabello..hee hee)

Sherry said the Portofino multiple stick would be better than the Orgasm Multiple stick because the colour is more vibrant and will last longer, but it is still a pinky-coral… I like to use cream blushes UNDER a regular blush (like Orgasm). It looks fresh and pretty! These sticks are expensive ($46!) but I am happy with it so far!

And I also bought a new Shu Eumera eyelash curler, because they are the best

I didn’t have time to get anymore stuff because we ran out of time! I think I would have just kept buying whatever she said.. haha I’m going to ask her what her favourite lip gloss is next:) She said when she gets back from NYC, she would do a lil interview with the blog!! Woo hoo..
I am sooo proud of you SHERRY!

I also got a couple presents for my sister- in -laws (and mom), as we are celebrating Christmas this weekend since we couldn’t be together in Dec…

They wrapped it so pretty!! Fun stuff! Ok- I better get back to work! ahhhhh

BUT FIRST.. something that Sephora DOES NOT have that I drool and lose sleep over!

ahhh…. The trouble is a 1 ounce jar is like $200….

WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE ULTIMATE SPLURGE BEAUTY PRODUCT??

    :)

    :)

  • Hey!

Happy Monday! From the looks of facebook status updates, crappy weather is taking place everywhere (well in Nothern America at least) I look outside and see rain and lots of my peeps across Canada are seeing snow. AHHH! What to do? It is in this moment that we need to be bright and cheery more than ever. It is so easy to get down when we look outside and see BLA weather and think..Oh great, winter is here. Look at it as a new opportunity. What are you going to do this winter that it going to kick ass and make you happy?

Things I want to accomplish during the colder months:

    -Pumpkin patch this weekend!
    -Carve the pumpkin =)
-workout! workout! workout! (also think about triathlon training)
-take a class (maybe photography, art or cooking? any suggestions?)
-yoga and meditation feel nice and warm in winter
-volunteer as a reader for the blind
    -take some pro makeup classes
    - continue singing with the choir
    -write some new songs
    -read and drink more tea
-bundle up and go for walks in the rain

Any other ideas? What are you up to during the upcoming months?

This is the view outside my window this am

I pulled out my slippers this am..moccasins from family in Sask….Red pair from Ikea..ha…!

Onto my happy accident! I was searching for my Costco card in my wallet and a Sephora gift card magically fell out!
Thank you little songs birds that placed this in my wallet!

Soooo…How much is on it? Who knows…What do I need? That is the important question!

A few items on my Sephora wish list:

Nars “orgasm” blush (best blush in the biz)

Nars “laguna” bronzer (perfect glow in the winter months)

Two Faced shadow insurance (your eyeshadow will not fade!)

And the sold out (grrr) “naked” Urban Decay palette that I long for

To banish dark circles, blemishes….Laura Mercier will show you the way

Always liked this at home microdermabrasion by Dr. Brandt

After you’ve scrubbed… How about some Argan Oil from Josie Maran You can use it face/hands/hair…

Last but not least: love this Scent by Lolita Lempika

What’s on your Sephora wish list right now? I assure you, this is just a start…I could go on and on!

Also…have you looked through your wallet lately? Anything good?

Have a bright, bright sun shining day (no matter what!!)

    xoxo
