  • Hey!

Ok…What is inspiring you NOW. I mean like RIGHT NOW. Don’t over think it. Just spit it out.

Here are 5 things that are inspiring me NOW off the top of my head:

    1. California weather (it’s been crazy nice, like lay on the beach nice-in January!)

Here’s an iphone shot I took the other night.

    2. People with STYLE! (I must look like a stalker, but at the dog park, I stare at some of the girls around me that have such funky style…oh and I’m in my running shorts!) They inspire me to think outside the box a bit. Working from home, I can get complacent with my “style” or what I put on everyday. I want to put more effort into it.

This collage of last years Coachella goers which pretty much sums up LA style. It’s very hip, funky, chill, relaxed, somewhat vintage. (My target running shorts just don’t compare!!! haha)

    3. Raw healthy eating.

I have been pretty darn good these days with sticking to raw, but still far from a 100% raw diet. But- I try to I incorporate as many fruits and veggies into my life as possible and make an effort to stay away from fat and Dairy! (Meat isn’t even an issue, I am SO over it!)
I LOVE This video on how food resembles our body parts…

    4. My work. (ahh, what else is new?) When I have time-I listen to other voice actors demo’s and I just love it, there is soo much amazing talent out there. When I’m in the car-I turn up the commercials. When I am in voiceover classes- I am a learning sponge.(I don’t always hear the things I want- they do NOT sugar coat anything, but I know it is making me stronger)

Here is a screen shot of my voices.com feedback page. Besides 1 other voice talent, I have the most amount of 5 star ratings for female voice talent on the whole site!! 118 5-star reviews baby!
    voices.com actor

    5. My wedding photos! They were taken by Matt and Janna Photography in Saskatoon. I’m just really inspired at how they captured it all. I don’t want to bombard you with kissing photos, haha, but I love LOVE,  I love my husband and I am so thrilled with our pictures and just getting to relive the day through photographs.

My ruby red slippers in action. “There’s no place like home!”.

    I heart him.

OK. Well, artsy fartsy me has spoken. This is me..tonight…5 things that are inspiring me NOW. What is inspiring you? It can seriously be ANYTHING. That’s the beauty of life. Life is what we make it, we can see it however we want…

Maybe your pillow is inspiring you? hee hee… night night.

  • Hello!

Happy Monday to you! Hope you had a fantastic weekend. Here’s to an amazing week ahead!!!

I am feeling terrific right now. Why? Because today is DAY 1 of a 20 day Green Smoothie Cleanse. It has been just over 1 month from my surgery. If you are just tuning in, you can read about my precancerous cells.

Since finding out about the cells and that I would need surgery, I really started to investigate why we get cancer and so many other diseases in the first place. Through my journey, the deeper I dove into it, the more I discovered that eating a plant-based diet is a HUGE factor in starving off disease.

I became a certified Raw Food Chef, took a 4 week series of classes called Feed Life Starve Cancer, and went to the Ocean Resort Hotel, for a Raw Food Weekend. Here’s a video we made about our experience…

This past month, with all the travelling I was doing, I was NOT on a full plant based diet at all. I tried to make good choices while in LA, we went to Trader Joe’s to get a bunch of salad stuff and got green smoothies from Cafe Gratitude, but the plants were few and far between the Mexican food….

I feel in a really good place right now to RE-SET, get back on track and fuel my body with living enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, and now I present to you my partner in crime for my 20 day Green Smoothie Cleanse:

THE VITAMIX! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that this is THE blender you need to assist you in rocking a plant based existence. I heard time and time again that this blender is a life changer. So, at one of my classes, I was sandwiched between an older lady who was fighting breast cancer and a hip, earthy yoga instructor. They were both Vitamix owners. Simultaneously I asked them, “Does the Vitamix REALLY change your life?” They both looked at me and in unison I got an upbeat, excitable, “YES!”

    Here is my new friend….

    Vita-mix Green smoothie cleanse

As I unpacked her, I noticed it came with a binder containing recipes, tips, tricks and even a dvd on getting started.

    Vita-mix Green smoothie cleans

This card is for impatient people like me who are too excited to read or watch a dvd. (I’ll investigate all that soon!)

    Vita-mix Green smoothie cleans

My first smoothie of the 20 day cleanse. I used greens, a cucumber…

    Green smoothie cleanse, Vita-mix

    Freshly squeezed lemon juice..

    freshly squeezed lemon juice

    Dates and ginger…

And Voila. My good morning shake

The Vitamix works ridiculously amazing, it opens up all the cell walls of the greens, so it’s very easy for your body to assimilate and digest the green goodness. It makes the smoothies taste better too since it is blended sooo well and it takes 1/4 of the time it took my other blender that left chunks. I am a happy camper.

For lunch I threw in 2 banana’s, kale, mixed berries and 2 dates for a sweeter lunch.

    Lunch….

And dinner, a wack of spinach, 2 dates, banana, lemon and ginger…

    green smoothie cleanse

Just finished this as I am writing.

I am also drinking Green Tea. Today was also my first day back at the gym since my surgery(It was a rough one!) But I got through it and am feeling extremely optimistic about the next 20 days. I know there will be rough patches, but I also know that when my cleanse is done (on Christmas Day!) I am going to feel amazing. My cells are going to be sooooo happy.

Anyone out there want to join me on this journey? Try a 3 day cleanse?

Here’s a couple good recipes to start with.

    Dr. Oz’s Green Smoothie

    • 2 cups spinach
    • 2 cups cucumber
    • 1 head of celery
    • 1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
    • 1 bunch parsley
    • 2 apples
    • Juice of 1 lime
    • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Glowing Green Smoothie by nutritionist Kimberly Snyder

    • 1 1/2 cups water
    • 1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
    • 3-4 stalks organic celery
    • 1/2 head of a large bunch, or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
    • 1 organic apple, cored and chopped
    • 1 organic pear, cored and chopped
    • 1 organic banana
    • Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon

I will be giving you more recipes along the way…. Feel free to experiment and come up with your own!

If you don’t want to commit to a cleanse, may I suggest adding a green smoothie to your morning routine?

Take care and we’ll talk tomorrow!

  • Hello!!!

    Happy Monday!!!

2 things I’ve been asked about via email lately and I was inspired to write about them today. First off, someone asked me about my vision boards. They are super easy to do and they are a wonderful tool to bring you closer to your goals/dreams…. How do you create a vision board?

    YOU SIMPLY:

    1. Get a wack load of old magazines

    2. Cut out things that you are drawn to and that inspire you

    3. Glue or tape them to cardboard or a frame

    4. Put it up somewhere you will see it daily

    5. Look at it everyday and envision the things on it as yours. Imagine it. Feel it. See it.

This one below is an older one Mike and I made together…. (I kinda cut off Mike‘s side to respect his privacy. You can see mine though, lol…)

Then while I was attending raw chef school. We were to fill out these ones as a homework assignment. This is what I came up with…

reaching goals, treasure mapping, brian mayne's goal mapping, vision board

This particular map has a specific way of charting it out: (I didn’t follow it though)

reaching goals, treasure mapping, brian mayne's goal mapping, vision board

HOWEVER! If you want a little help creating your goal map. Check this out that I found for you!!! It’s some instructions and templates that you can print out and make you own!! Or you can just do it the way I explained at the top. (magazines and scissors baby!) Again, here is an awesome, helpful Goal Mapping Link (by Brian Mayne)

I really want to have a vision board party like these ladies did at Travelmamas.com (Wine and vision boards? Sounds fun! Anyone in?)

OK, the second thing I’ve been asked lately are tips on losing weight. I really don’t know much other than what has “worked” for me. I use the term “worked’ loosely because I am NOT perfect or even close to eating perfect 100% of the time, but since I’ve been into raw foods- I have definitely noticed results.

    RANDOM TIPS:

    1. From the stuff I have been learning, it says that so much of our food consumption is emotional. We are mentally addicted to the foods we eat, even though so many of them do nothing for us nutritionally.

    2. In order to have something we’ve never had before- we have to do something we’ve never done.
I’ve lost 10 pounds since I started incorporating more raw foods into my life.(and that is just a bi-product- my energy and mental clarity is really amazing right now)

    3. Don’t beat yourself up, or do anything drastic, just make a decision in your mind that you are going to do it and you WILL do it.

    4. I love writing down my thoughts, goals. You could write, “I am sooo happy and grateful that I now fit into all my skinny jeans”, Or “that I know weigh x amount” Invision yourself at that weight and see and feel it. The more you feel it, the more it will become your reality.

    5. Try to have a shake for breakfast, reach for fruit, or something like carrot sticks and homemade hummus for snack,
If you like salads- make one everyday!

    6. It’s really important to stay away from white foods (I know it’s hard! My mom was just in town and it was cinnamon bun central over here! lol) But white foods (sugar, flour, rice, bread) ONLY make us more hungry. Their is NO nutrition in them, and our body is starving for nutrients, so it just gets hungrier. Most of these overly processed foods are actually toxic to our systems and that’s why we gain weight. Our fat cells store these acidic toxins and our body won’t let them go.

    7. Basically just try to eat as many “whole”, real foods as possible. Whole grain rice, legumes, fruits, veggies, (free range meat? if you eat meat), steamed yams..stuff like that.. .

    8. Of course, exercise too. That is a given. We not only need to move our bodies to keep our weight down, we need to move our bodies to starve off diseases (such as the damn cancer thing).

    9. Be happy! I try to eat well, but I don’t get upset if I eat cookies, nachos, or beer now and then. I’m always striving to be as healthy as possible and make the choices that count, but we are on earth a short time, so you gotta have some fun. Have a good life. Be happy! Smile….

Try this quote below in your elevator or in line at Starbucks tomorrow morning!!

And those are my super random tips. What would you add?

Keep in touch eh!? Lots of love, light and smiles!

PS> Day 5 of my 30 day yoga challenge in the bag!

  • Hello!!!

I hope you had an abundant, joyful weekend (It’s the day after Thanksgiving in Canada)!

I didn’t get to be with my family this time around but I still had a great weekend. Tonight I am pumped for my 3rd class of Feed Life, Starve Cancer. It is exactly 3 weeks away until my surgery and I am soaking up as much info as I can to live a cancer-free life!

Look at this abundance of yummy fresh produce.

    feed life, starve cancer

I was a keener and was one of the first to arrive:)

In our last class we learnt why dairy is not a good idea when you are trying to starve cancer.

    - It is not nutrient dense, has large amounts of saturated fat, (which suppresses immune function, slows down the body’s ability to detoxify) Dairy contains dozens of hormones, chemicals, antibiotics and the purpose of cow’s milk is to grow a 90lb calf into a 1000 pound animal! Why do WE consume it? You can get all the calcium you need (and more) from greens (Broccoli and Kale are great sources, as well as beans.

    We made a nut cheese!

I will get you the recipe soon, but the basis of this is macadamia nuts and spices.

    Feed life, starve cancer

Our instructor Eden rolled it to look like a mozza ball…

    Feed life, starve cancer

Ate it on a Mary’s cracker, basil leaf, tomato and the nut cheese. It was delicious. I can’t wait to make it!

    Feed life, starve cancer

Another dairy alternative is Nut Milks. We made milk out of cashews, coconut, hemp and almond.

    Feed life, starve cancer

To make your own nut milk, check out the recipe I put here. NUT MILK RECIPE.

    Feed life, starve cancer

Eden used actual Vanilla Bean pods to flavour the milk. It is a great idea to stay as true to the whole food source as possible….

    Feed life, starve cancer

But I have been using this Vanilla Bean Powder which has been fantastic. I got it at Planet Organic in Coquitlam. I use it for SO MUCH! I heard Whole Foods is about to get this stuff!

    Feed life, starve cancer

Eden told us about a couple cool websites:
Eat Local is about finding fresh produce at local markets in BC, it also has an awesome list of what produce is in season during what months. So cool!

The other site is Still Tasty. Keep it or toss it? A great guide to how long you should let something hang out in your fridge. Or you can use the “When in doubt, throw it out” method..

Tonight is week 3 for the course. Tonight we are covering the dozen Starve Cancer super foods and Simple Delicious 15 min entrees. Woot Woot! I found out about these classes at Feedlife.ca. They are wonderful.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your week is off to a great start!

    xoxo

  • Okeeeee dokieeeeeeeeee

Had THE best day of getting caught up on a million little things…but in the interim, this morning I made Cashew Milk…..If you want to make your own nut milk. Check here, or watch Robyn from Girlonraw.com

    Raw cashew milk

My real Myth Buster was: Can you really make RAW chips, salsa, guac AND non-dairy sour cream?

    Raw tortilla chips

Ok guys and girls… write this down:

    raw corn tortilla

    For the tortilla chips:
-4 cups of frozen corn (organic if possible)
-1/2 cup of ground flax seeds (not soaked)
    -1/2 cup orange juice
1 clove garlic (or more if you like…hee hee)
    -1/8 teaspoon of salt
    raw corn tortilla's

Then process until very smooth and spread thinly in your dehydrator (or oven at 110 degress)

    raw corn tortilla's

You want these puppies spread thin. I had 3 baking sheets filled in my oven. Flip tortilla’s after 3 hours and continue dehydrating the other side for about 2 more hours. (Just keep an eye on them. Until they are crisp!!

    raw corn tortilla's

If you didn’t dehydrate these as long you could use them as wraps for enchilada’s….

    raw corn tortilla's

But I dehydrated them for quite a while and happily snapped them into chips.

    raw corn tortilla's

Seriously, did I just make those???

    raw corn tortilla's

k, Salsa… Easy… a few tomatoes, 1/2 an onion, a bit of green onion, 1/4 cup cilantro, a few jalapeno’s, and some yellow peppers just because I had em…., salt too…

    raw corn tortilla's

    ALL CHOPPED UP!

    raw corn tortilla's

GUAC…. we only used 1 mashed ripened avocado, 1 clove mashed garlic, 1/2 squeeze lemon juice. (you can add onions, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro if you like..)

    raw corn tortilla's

    NON-Dairy Sour cream…
-1 cup of cashews (soaked for 2- 6 hours)
    -1/4-1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
    -3 Tablespoons of lemon juice

Blend until very smooth and you’re good to go!

    raw corn tortilla's

THIS MYTH HAS BEEN CONFIRMED! You can have a raw mexican fiesta. Just not sure about tequila…but this food you see below tasted fresh, light, but oh so filling. Dairy, preservative, and even oil free…. I can’t believe it’s not butter cooked.

    raw corn tortilla's

Oh, and while we enjoyed our delicacies, we actually watched Myth Busters online, (No, we don’t own a television…)

    myth busters streaming

Painter was into the show for the first bit…..

    But he got bored..

    Areeeeba!

Going to a friends baby shower tomorrow, should be a great time… Hope your having a fantastic weekend. If your Canadian, Happy Thanksgiving. If your from anywhere else on this beautiful planet…. Hi! I love ya!!!

    xoxoxo
