  • Hey!

Tuesday eh? Anything exciting going on? For me- just busy voicing projects and I just went for a very light swim earlier. Mike and I are getting ready to go for a trip to Saskatchewan to visit our families. One thing I have GOT TO DO before I leave tomorrow is clean up my apartment. I don’t like coming home from a trip to a messy place.

I also want to wash my makeup brushes. The most effective method of brush washing for me is using baby shampoo and laying them flat to dry. I anticipate I will be doing makeup for a couple family members here and there during the trip;)

I went into Sephora recently and GUESS WHAT? My friend Sherry that I went to makeup school with made the 2011 Sephora PRO Team! She is in NYC right now for fashion week doing makeup for all the BIG Fashion Houses! I am sooo proud of her! She was chosen out of 1300+ makeup artists to make the team of 14! Holy Moley!

Here’s us in makeup school…nothing like a hair train to pass the time… (notice how no one wanted to sit in front of me? haha)

So, now that Sherry is BIG TIME… You can bet your bottom dollar that when I saw her a couple weeks ago I picked her brain on everything that she has learnt and what some of her favourite Sephora products are these days.. Here is what she said to buy… (Keep in mind my makeup kit is about 50 pounds, so these are things I don’t already own)

    1. Tarte Eye Liner

I like it, it is waterproof, nice intense black and has that aqua look. My only problem is that I like to blend over it with a thin eyeliner brush because the precision isn’t immaculate, but it is definitely a good purchase!

    2. Givenchy Instant light Concealer

This concealer is good for dry skin. Not good for blemishes, but is a nice under eye concealer that adds some brightness and cuts our purple bags.

    3. Nars Laguna Bronzer

Hearts and kisses all around for this bronzer.. It is beautiful. Has a nice light shimmer.

    4. Clinique Redness Solution foundation

Holy Cow, I can’t believe Sherry convinced me to buy Clinique! I normally DO NOT like anything from this brand.. but Sherry converted me… (at least with the foundation) My skin normally has a bit of redness and this foundation worked well, at a very good price. Still NOT my favourite foundation by any means, but a nice addition to the kit and good for makeup clients too!

    5. Nars multiple stick in Portofino (Sherry was getting mad at me, cuz I kept calling it Portabello..hee hee)

Sherry said the Portofino multiple stick would be better than the Orgasm Multiple stick because the colour is more vibrant and will last longer, but it is still a pinky-coral… I like to use cream blushes UNDER a regular blush (like Orgasm). It looks fresh and pretty! These sticks are expensive ($46!) but I am happy with it so far!

And I also bought a new Shu Eumera eyelash curler, because they are the best

I didn’t have time to get anymore stuff because we ran out of time! I think I would have just kept buying whatever she said.. haha I’m going to ask her what her favourite lip gloss is next:) She said when she gets back from NYC, she would do a lil interview with the blog!! Woo hoo..
I am sooo proud of you SHERRY!

I also got a couple presents for my sister- in -laws (and mom), as we are celebrating Christmas this weekend since we couldn’t be together in Dec…

They wrapped it so pretty!! Fun stuff! Ok- I better get back to work! ahhhhh

BUT FIRST.. something that Sephora DOES NOT have that I drool and lose sleep over!

ahhh…. The trouble is a 1 ounce jar is like $200….

WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE ULTIMATE SPLURGE BEAUTY PRODUCT??

    :)

    :)

  • Yep, that’s right- I just created my own triathlon. Run, Swim and Spa:)

I woke up at 6:30am, and made it to The Right Shoe by 8am for a 60 minute run with the half marathon group. Nice thing about The Right Shoe is that they have drop in sessions for all of their training sessions, so my friend Jaclyn came and ran with us!

drop in session at the right shoe

Jaclyn and I went to high school together. The great thing is- when I see her- I never have to explain myself. Like who I am, what I’m about….The fact that, yes I am crazy, but I have a heart of gold. She just gets me. I see her, give a high five and away we go…

Jaclyn is thinking about joining my triathlon club… I’m not trying to be pushy or persuasive. But…DO IT!! lol!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!  The first week is the most intimidating, you don’t know anyone, (except me) or how hard it is going to be, etc. After the first week, you get in a groove. You get in a flow and it’s almost like an addiction- a positive one mind you. I crave the training now. My life has never felt more on track than it has in the last 3 weeks. No joke. I feel unstoppable. In my training, my career and my life.

Jaclyn is an all-star cyclist, so she could teach me a thing or 2…or 3… or 4….

I heart you Jaclyn and am soo proud of all you’ve accomplished. Career wise, MBA wise, life wise and athletic wise;)

After our run, I drove home, (I drove to save time because I have a super busy day) put my bathing suit on and went down to my pool for 30 laps. In my schedule game plan, we were to work on drills during the swim, so I incorporated some finger drags and superman flutters.

Then I jumped in the shower and made my way to The Absolute Spa at Century City. It is my good friend Andrea’s birthday tomorrow, so we started today with a SPA day. Here is a photo of my facebook status

Yeeeeep! It has been that fun. The strawberries were chocolate covered btw. I think girl spa days are a must. It was such a blast. I had cucumbers on my eyes tooo

I will get into more details tomorrow. We are on our way to dinner at Coast, I have curlers in my hair and need to get some makeup on.

Hope your weekend has been great. Talk to you sooon! I heart you!!

  • Hey!!!!

Neato Mosquito! Do you ever say that phrase?

Just had a really fun photo shoot where I did the hair and makeup for a sweet girl named Echo. She needed some new headshots for her acting agent, and we needed to portray her in different looks. I will try to post more soon, but here are a couple of the looks I shot with my camera.

Here is a Sophisticated corporate look

and here’s a more edgy look.

Go lucky Photo was here doing the real shooting! Good times and good luck Echo!

Here is my “Tower Of Power” (aka-my makeup!)

Another neato mosquito happening here is that our Canucks song has been picked up by the Canucks Radio Network. It is now being used for the background track of their weekly promos. Check it out!

Sounds great. Thanks for getting us in there Jeff.

Just finished a few voice auditions and now going to have some lunch before jumping on the ferry to Granville Island to go drink beer and eat chocolate at the Chocolate Festival. Woah!!

I hope you are having a beautiful day! What’s up for the weekend? TGIF or???

    Talk soon! xoxoxo

  • Hello!

I am especially excited to do this post today. Why? Because it is my first ever “Tomboy That Wears Makeup- OF THE MONTH”  (or in the categories, you’ll see it abbreviated TTWM of the month) .

So, what this means is that every month, (I’ll try to keep it consistent on the 1st) I will be featuring an inspiring, motivating, beautiful (inside and out) positive female. One who can be a role model for us, one who we may  get some sound advice from, or maybe one who motivates us to do the things we know in our hearts we can do. And, it could be someone who just makes you smile. Whatever you get out of it is great.

    Drum roll please….

Introducing Liis Sober. I had the opportunity to meet Liis a while back and just recently I did her make up for  a photo shoot. As we chatted I realized how perfect she would be for this blog. Let’s chat!

    makeup by me:)

1.Tell us a bit about yourself
I am from Estonia, moved to Finland when I was 8, moved to States when I was 19, and I have been to Vancouver for 2 and half years now. I love sports; I have played tennis since I was 8. I played competitively for most of my teen years, I played for the University of Kentucky, now I play for fun and teach as well. I love fashion, I always have. I started modeling when I was 14, I really enjoyed it but tennis was always my priority. I got my bachelors degree in Merchandising and I currently work for the talented Vancouver Designer Shelley Klassen as a director of retail operations in her flagship store Blushing Boutique (579 Richards street).

    2.What inspires/motivates you
My family inspires me and motivates me. My father is a basketball coach and he has been a coach for almost 30years now. He is inspiring to me because he has a job that he loves and is passionate about. It seems that the people who do what they love are usually the ones who are successful as well. What always gives me strength is that I know no matter what happens I can always count on my family’s support.

    3. Favorite Beauty Product? Mascara! I have short eyelashes so I find that mascara makes a big difference…makes me look like I am awake in the morning..haha

    4. What is your biggest fear?

I have no fear… I believe that everything happens for a reason and whatever comes my way will make me grow and build me stronger.

    makeup by me:)

I do not know if these are quotes but they are sayings that I like: “whatever you put out there is what you get back’” and “everything happens for a reason”

    6. What is your greatest achievement?
Getting a scholarship to a division one University in the states.

    makeup by me:)

    7. If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?

Since my parents, my two sisters and I live in 4 different countries I would love to get us all together for lunch.

    8. What is something about yourself people may not know?

I enjoy painting with acrylic paints.

    9. Something that makes you smile?
    Watching the sunset!

    10. Do you have a wholesome recipe you’d like to share?
Super easy Slightly spicy Lentil, barley, mushroom vegetable soup
Ingredients: 1/3 cup any lentils, 1/3 cup barley, 4-5 small potatoes, 4-5 carrots, 1 onion, 5 mushrooms, 1-2 organic vegetable broth cube(s), salt, 1 tea spoon of red curry paste, 8-9 cups of water

  • Happy Monday!

Ready to take this week by the horns and show it what you’ve got? I’m not:(
lol, I feel lazier than ever today, but I will pick myself up! I am actually going to take a day off today and do some shopping, maybe get my nails done, fun stuff. I just got a call that I have a studio session via computer in NYC tomorrow, so I need to rest up for that. It is for a translation company. Should be interesting.

Want to see some beautiful photos?
This was a creative project we did with my cousin a lil while back. My cousin Robin is a gorgeous gal, has done really well with modelling, so Andrea from Go Lucky Photography and I decided to do a mock “bridal” shoot with her. I kept the makeup very light and pretty and Andrea took some amazing pics as always.
Great thing is Robin is going to be a bride FOR REAL this Sunday! How cool is that. I am really looking forward to the wedding.

From model Bride….to real Bride this Sunday!

We took these shots in the Gas Town area of Vancouver.

I hope you are off to a great start in your week. I went to Whole Food this morning and got some good wholesome food. I also borrowed The Thrive Diet and Thrive Fitness from the Library.  I love getting books from the library. It is such a great resource and it’s free!

Do you have a library card?
