  • Me having a big resolutions list is probably not a big surprise to you.. ha..

I know some real dedicated people out there don’t make New Years Resolutions- because they live their best life continuously and don’t feel the need for a big list of resolutions… I, on the other hand, am a dedicated cat, but I definitely have let things go over the holidays. I find the holidays are a big (happy) interruption…

Everything gets thrown outta wack and January is a perfect time to reset.  In the last couple years, I’ve hit some major goals for myself (such as becoming full time self employed this year!)
Why stop there? 2011 is going to be the best year yet. At the end of this year, I want to read over this blog post and say- yup, I did it all. I am not going to post everything on here, but I will share with you the majority of what my resolution list looks like:

    1. Complete another Olympic Distance Triathlon

    2. Complete 2 Sprint Distance Triathlon’s

    3. Do at least one half-marathon, a 10km and hike the West Coast Trail- again!

    4. Follow a Vegan, clean eating diet (as best as I can). Don’t beat me up if you see me eating nachos with cheese at the local pub! lol If you want some tips on getting started on a more plant based diet, I recommend reading this.

    5. Host or guest host a TV show

    6. Voice a major phone system like Telus, A T and T, Rogers…something BIG and recurring. (Or voice any major recurring US or Canadian National Spots!)

    7. Make over 6 figures this year with my creative endeavor$ (voice/hosting/makeup/blog)

    (whether I’m in the scene)

    (or behind the scenes)

    8. Meditate at least once per week.

    9. Continue to inspire as many people as possible and keep putting out positive energy into the universe

    10. Get MARRIED!

The love of my life proposed at midnight on New Years Eve, I totally didn’t see it coming. I hoped that it wouldn’t be too much longer until he popped the question, but he played it off really well! It was such a perfect night, and a perfect start to 2011!

What are your resolutions?  I would love to hear what your goals are for this year!! DO SHARE!!

Don’t be afraid to dream big. YES, we don’t want to set ourselves up for failure, however:

Dreamers are the saviors of the world.

Right? And goals are just dreams with deadlines. I don’t always hit my goals at the time I set for that particular goal, however I keep pushing on, because I feel that the person I become in pursuit of my dreams is just as important as achieving the dreams themselves. Shoot for the moon and ya might land among the stars….

    Here’s to 2011!

    I believe in you!

    xoxo

PS. I am on day 2 of a 3 day juice cleanse. I have been drinking the green shake. I’ll give you an update tomorrow.

  • Good morning!!

How are you? I’m great. I got up and listened to Morning Coach. I have been listening to the daily podcasts at Morning Coach for about 6 months now. I must say, it has really helped me grow myself as a person and stay on track. It’s $20/month- an awesome investment.

Today on the podcast, they talked about goals. Dreams are goals with deadlines. Here are some tips on goal setting:

    1. Write your goals down on paper
    2. Be specific and clear, as detailed as possible. Don’t just say you want to lose 10 pounds. Say the date, the time, and what steps you need to take to get you there
    3. Be aware of what obstacles you may encounter. How will you handle it?
    4. Control your focus. (this is a big one for me. I get really excited about different things and can veer off track. I need to work on having a set number of goals and focus on only them)
    5. WHY are you wanting to achieve this goal? You have to have a big enough reason why you want this.
    6. Visualize yourself achieving this goal. How do you feel?

Another thing I think that helps with reaching your goals is sharing them with a close friend, a loved one, or with the world like me on this blog, lol. That way you are held accountable and have the support from others. Look at Marianne for example. She has been sharing her journey on reaching her goals with us and it is so AWESOME! If you are just tuning it, Check here, then here. She is once and for all getting to her goal weight and I couldn’t be more proud. I talked to Marianne yesterday and she is doubling up her workouts a few times a week.  We will have another update with her on Nov.29!

Have you set goals in the past and not reached them? Then watch this:

    Never give up!

I have set a new goal.
Do yoga for 30 days in a row at Semperviva Yoga. On Oct. 30 they started a 40 day yoga challenge. I am joining in a few days late, but this will be a huge challenge for me regardless.

    Now…the WHY.

    - I want to prove to myself that I can complete a goal I set.

    - I know the benefits of yoga are life changing, not only physically, but mentally

    - It will help me stay zen and calm in other areas of my life

    - I feel so tight right now, let’s Increase my flexibility

    - Get involved in the community. Over 200 people signed up for the challenge!

    - Be the change I want to see

If you want to get involved! Come join me! There are 145 classes a week to pick from. Check out Semperviva.

I remember the first yoga class I ever went to was in LA. I was so nervous- I had a freaking supermodel next to me. Shalom Harlow was right beside me!!!She was definitely an experienced yogi and insanely flexible.

    Me….not so much….but I fake it til I make it!“Ommmmmmmm.”;)

To be completely honest, I usually don’t like the month of November. Lame hey? To not like a month? Lame…and weird? But I am turning that around and making November the best month EVER. It’s all perception baby!

Ok…..SO…..are you in? What are your goals?

    Have a wonderful day!

NAMASTE! (I see your light) xoxo

  • Good Morning! Hope you are well!

The reason I started this blog is so that I could inspire and encourage more people around the world than I could ever do on a one on one basis. Through the medium of computers, I can be in China and Australia all at the same time. However this is a lifestyle blog as well, so you get some normal everyday stuff I do…along with the “let’s get pumped up and reach our goals” posts…….

Like this one…It is a “let’s get pumped up and reach our goals” post!!

I want you to meet Marianne. She is a wonderful friend of mine who is brave enough to share with us her goal to ultimate health. She has already made significant gains and is going to take us along for the ride for the final 3 months.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your struggle
I was a very active teenager – Ukrainian dancing kept me fit and I worked out on top of practices and performances to keep myself in fine form. When I stopped dancing, I didn’t replace that activity with anything else, I didn’t adjust my eating habits appropriately and my weight kept creeping higher throught my twenties. Nearly a decade later, I find myself continuing to struggle with my weight. I’ve tried a number of diets: points systems, cabbage soups, some that worked for a short time, others that just left me feeling more frustrated that I was originally. I’ve set deadlines for myself, started a collection of “goal weight” clothes, made excuses for myself, and tried other “quick fixes” but haven’t, until recently, after reaching my highest weight of more than 200 pounds, been able to make any of it stick.

Here is Marianne at her heaviest-Christmas 2009

… you have taken the first step, congrats! how did you take the first step in achieving your goals?
In april, I met with a naturopath who put me on an eating plan to resolve some uncomfortable stomach issues.  In less that three weeks of her ‘clean’ eating program, I lost 18 pounds, had nearly zero of the painful symptoms I’d been experiencing, and I felt a renewed sense of desire to reach my goals once and for all.  I dedicated myself to my gym workouts and together with my eating plan, I have lost a total of 31 pounds so far!  I feel that making changes for the sake of my overall heatlh, rather than an event or a pair of jeans, has really helped to motivate me in a new way.  The West Coast Trail this summer pushed me to physical limits, I would never even have attempted alone – I don’t know that I could’ve done it without the encouragement of some of the most amazing people in my life.  I truly walked away from that hike realizing that it’s when i’m pushed outside of my comfort zone that I really grow, and knowing that I can do anything I put my mind to! Especially with an incredibly support system.

Here is Marianne on The West Coast Trail (2nd hardest maintained hike in the world!!) and when she was about 18 pounds lighter!
Well Marianne, you definitely have our support. We totally believe in you and are very proud of you.

Here she is now, 30 pounds lighter…wow!!! You look amazing!

    So….. the Plan now?
So here it is. The final time that I resolve to lose my extra weight, and be in the best ultimate health of my life. 29 has always been a lucky number for me.  I will turn 29 years old on December 29th this year, and I have 29 pounds to my ultaime goal: 150 pounds. (a healthy weight goal for my height i promise!)So there it is, my goal is to be 150 pounds on Dec.29/2010.  I am choosing to continue with my naturopath’s eating plan (restricts dairy, sugar, wheat and gluten as these all negatively affect my insides), and am committing to at least 5 workouts per week – gym classes including spin, strength training and cardio rebound are my favorites! – I’m also adding in more running and hiking.  The work i’ve done so far has absolutely paid off and i’m starting to feel more confident in myself and so very proud of what i’ve accomplished.  I am so very thankful for an opportunity to share this final stretch of this journey with my dear friend Amanda, and all of her faithful blog-followers! Let’s do this!!

Marianne, you ROCK. Thank you so much for taking us on this journey. One of my favorite quotes is, “Take pride in how far you have come and have faith in how far you will go.” I have no doubt that you will not only reach this goal, but ANYTHING else you put your mind to!

ok team…are ya pumped? I know I am.

We will be checking in with Marianne from time to time to see how she is doing. It is extremely brave of her to share this with us. Talk about integrity and honesty!!!

Please feel free to share your comments for Marianne, and share your goals with us as well!!

    Have an amazing, inspired day:)

  • Hey! How are you?!!

You should see me this morning, all over the place. I’m going from one computer to the other, in and out of the sound booth, from editing to auditioning, to emailing and back to the blog. I feel like I need to CALM the BEEP down. I find myself getting so many ideas and so many things on the go, sometimes it gets overwhelming. CHILL OUT AMANDA…..One thing at a time….
I need to get out my day planner, WRITE down all these ideas and to do’s in my head and start at the top of the list and work my way down….

Amongst everything going on, I am also trying to map out a fitness plan for the winter. While you technically CAN hike all winter, the mornings are way to dark in the trees and I need to get my workouts done first thing…or I somehow let it slip by for the day. I live downtown Vancouver, but ironically we don’t really have a gym close to us. We live way down at the beach, so to get to a gym or yoga studio, it’s quite a trek (I like easy access to workouts…) Last winter, I ran 5km almost every morning, (rain or shine) and I really enjoyed that. HOWEVER, my 80 year old Nana told me a secret this summer. (scroll down to find out….)

My Nana is in absolute incredible shape and spirits. At weddings you can’t get her off the dance floor, and up until a couple years ago she could still do the splits!! She used to be a famous dancer with The Tiller Girls in England during the war….
Here are a couple pics of her

My Nana is on the very left

    headshot of my nana

Here’s a recent picture of her and grandad:)

My Nana told me never to “give in” to getting old. She says she still feels like she’s 21!! You know how people start that self talk…”oh I’m to old for that now.” well, if you believe it…YOU ARE!! If you say your old, the universe will respond by letting you “get old”. How old do you feel? I sure don’t feel old, nor will I ever give into it.

The secret she told me to a strong, lean physical body as we go through life is………….TONING…..KEEPING THOSE MUSCLES FIRM…that’s it!  Now, this is something I NEVER do. I utterly oppose toning exercises, but you know what…I am going to start. See, I can run and hike forever, and I never get toned… I truly do NOT like the firming type exercises, but by golly, I am going to start!!! I am going to commit to toning all winter  (I will never stop running and hiking because I think they are important too. This is why I’ll make a lil game plan and make them all work together)

Who is in with me? Let’s get in the best shape of our lives. Find a picture of yourself where you felt your most fit and healthy.

Here are a couple of mine

    look at that leg! lol

Even right now, I don’t think I am FAT…I just know that I could firm up a bit and squeeze my butt into my skinny jeans once and for all. So what I’ve decided to do is P90X. I have some friends who have ordered it and had success (a friend of my brothers whom I just saw in Sask dropped a bunch of weight and looks amazing)… I just ordered it and will start as soon as it comes in the mail! It’s a 90 day program so it will be perfect, by Christmas time I will be able to drive Santa’s sleigh in a bikini (actually I think I’m going to Vegas for Christmas..but Santa goes to Vegas to right??)

Is it time for you to set a new goal?
