The 1st….the 1st…the 1st….My favourite day of the month…You know why? I get to do an interview with a beautiful, inspiring, groundbreaking woman. If you read Cosmo mag, she would be the equivalent to Cosmo’s Fun, Fearless Female. Except I call her “Tomboy That Wears Makeup Of The Month” and let me tell ya, April’s TTWM of the month is a STAR…

    Her name is Kimiko Zakreski

She is an Athlete, she made 2010 Olympian for Snowboarding….Read on…..
Growing up Calgary, Alberta, Kimiko Zakreski was just old enough to get her first taste of the Olympic spirit at the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. Though she was only four years old when they took place, the lasting impression that they made on her is what sparked her dream of becoming an Olympian herself.

Kimiko started snowboarding over a decade ago on the slopes of Canada Olympic Park, which is located in the heart of Calgary, Alberta. With the Canadian Rockies less then 2 hours from her doorstep, Kimi’s love of the mountains and snowboarding grew quickly. Kimiko trained and competitively snowboarded for 13 years, evolving from Junior National Team to Development Team to World Cup Team and eventually to the 2010 Canadian Olympic Team. Competing and representing Canada on a world stage has always been a huge passion for her.

Kimiko earned her first World Cup medal, silver, in Limone Piemonte, Italy in 2008. She was the first Canadian woman to ever earn a silver medal in an Alpine Snowboard World Cup. She podiumed again in the 2009/2010 season in Telluride, Collorado World Cup earning a bronze medal and qualifying her for the 2010 Olympic team.

She was featured in MTV Canada’s Over the Bolts which followed Kimiko and her teammates’ journey to making the Olympic Team. Kimi is currently working on a new TV production set to begin filming this summer.

Newly engaged to her fiancé Scott Willgress, Kimi has decided to take the 2011 season off from training and competing to focus on her exciting future ahead in her new place of residence, Halifax. Still undecided as to whether or not she will compete in the 2014 Olympics in Russia, Kimi is enjoying the year off from the hectic schedule and demands of being an elite athlete.

As an avid supporter of amateur sport in Canada, Kimiko looks forward to working at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova this February in support of aspiring young athletes.

    Kimiko, snowboarder

That’s a very impressive bio Kimi, thanks for doing this interview, I know your a busy gal. First off, what inspired you to get into snowboarding?

I learned how to snowboard when I was 12 years old at Canada Olympic Park (COP). I absolutely fell in love with the sport and decided I wanted to start racing. It probably wasn’t until I went to junior worlds and competed for team Canada when I decided that I really wanted to snowboard full time and potentially represent team Canada at the Olympics one day.

Awesome. What are some of your goals in the snowboarding world?

Well that is kind of on hold at the moment. I am taking the year off to decided if I want to continue competing or not. It might be time to settle down and start a family but that’s not to say I can’t make a come back. My ultimate goal would be to win a medal at the Olympics.

    Kimiko, snowboarder

Well you have definitely had an incredible career so far, what has been your absolute most favourite experience in your career?

Winning my first world cup medal in Italy. It was snowing so hard that day and both of my teammates Jasey Jay Anderson and Matt Morison also made it on to the podium in the men’s race. It was such a great day for the whole team. Our coaches were so happy and everyone was grinning from ear to ear.
    Kimiko, snowboarder

That champagne is well deserved, lol! That must have been a rush, besides snowboarding what are some other things you enjoy doing?

Yoga, road biking, weight lifting, anything to do with sweating.

Even snow angels? hee hee…Is it all that sweating that gives you such gorgeous skin?? What is your favourite Beauty Product?

Olay’s total effects face moisturizer. It is tinted and has SPF in it too!
And Loreal’s lineur intense liquid eye liner- this is a staple in my makeup bag.

Good stuff! Ok, what is your biggest fear?

    Letting people down.
    What is your favourite quote?
    Fortune favors the brave.

I’m stealing that! That line is so true. What is your greatest achievement?
Making the 2010 Olympic Team! Sometimes I still can’t believe I did it.

What a feat! The 2010 Olympics were absolutely unreal and it is incredible you were one of the athletes! Such an accomplishment.

If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?
That would have to be my best friend on the snowboard tour Johanna Lyle from the Australian Snowboard team. I haven’t seen her since the end of last season because we both took the year off from competing. We have traveled the world together for the last 6 years and since we are from different countries it makes it hard to see one another. We skype all the time though.

Technology is amazing. From Halifax to Australia in real time! Who do you admire?
My teammates Maelle Ricker and Dominique Maltais. They are both amazing athletes who dominate the World Cup circuit. They are passionate about what they do and are extremely motivated and hard working.

What is something about yourself people may not know?
I use to horseback ride and do western horse shows with my horse Apache.

Cool! What is something that makes you smile?
    My fiancé Scott. ☺

Aww, Your getting married!!! Congrats- from one bride to be to another……what do you do to RELAX?
Yoga! Even though I have been doing it for a while now, it still sometimes amazes me how it can effect my mood and energy in just an hour practice.

Well, I suck at snowboarding, but we have yoga in common:)
Kimi, you seriously rock. So cool you are a Canadian too. Thank you SOOO MUCH for taking the time to do this interview. It’s an honour to have you here. Have an incredible wedding girl as well.
    Namaste!!

See guys… I told you she was awesome! Check out Kimi’s website and join her facebook page!

Enjoy the rest of your day and remember, “Fortune favours the brave!”

I am going to sign the contract to our new place today… Opps, I didn’t tell you yet?? I’ll fill you in on all the deets tomorrow!

  • Hey!!

Happy March.3! On my way home from my swim this morning, on the radio they said March 3 (03/03) was “Champagne Day”? What? What rock have I been hiding under? Immediately I decided this is a holiday I want to participate in- Then I remembered I have a bike session tonight, need to get up early tomorrow AND I think the radio is full of it- because I scoured the internet to find anything on this “holiday” and there was NOTHING on it! Anyone else hear about this “holiday?”

I have something for you even better than champagne!! March’s TTWM Of The Month! Her name? Shannon Coates. Her game? Triathlons!

I came across Shannon on the IRONMAN Website and thought- this girl is amazing! I was floored when she agreed to do this interview. Shannon has been running competitively since she was 11, then she went on to run for Florida State University…then…she stumbled into triathlons… READ ON;)shannon coates, triathlete, ironman

Thank you so much for doing this interview Shannon! Ok, so what inspired you to get into triathlons? I remember seeing a picture of the swim start of Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii and thought it was the most incredible image I had ever seen and wanted nothing more then to be a part of it. I saw this picture when I was 15 years old and just getting into my running. Years later during FSU cross country I got injured and started road biking on my brothers old bike to cross train during the season. I enjoyed the cycling a lot and from there planned on looking into my first triathlon in between running for FSU. My first triathlon I did I ended up winning the overall female spot which was shocking because I couldnt swim well at all. The win had nothing to do with how I felt about the sport after that race, it only piqued a curiousity in me to see how far I could progress in this foreign territory. I was overwhelmed at how much fun triathlons were though and wanted to do more!shannon coates

I agree, I’ve done 1 Olympic Distance Tri and I just loved it. Such incredible energy in the air.  My goal is just crossing the finish line! What are some of your goals in the triathlon world? I would like to do all the ironman races around the world. I would also like to obtain a pro license one day if I manage to build myself to that level one day.shannon coates, training, ironman

I have no doubt you will turn pro, this is just the beginning for you! How many races will you do this year? Probably around 6 triathlons this season. 3 are set in stone. Ironman Louisville, Ironman Florida, ½ Ironman Florida. Hopefully I can qualify for ½ ironman world championship. I will also do a few shorter races for fun.

Cool! Do you train with a coach and how intense are your workouts? My coach is professional triathlete Zach Ruble. He gives me pro level workouts because he knows my goal to become pro one day.

That is fantastic! I love working with a coach, even at my recreational level;) Ok- tell me…. Do you ever miss days because you feel lazy or are just not into it? Always! If it is one thing I am trying to master is working full time and training full time. It does have a tendency to wear on you. My heart is always in it though. I make it up somewhere throughout the week, but other times I believe it is important to listen to your body. Sometimes it is better to take a day off rather then train and wear your body down further. You are actually doing more good resting.

Hearing that is like a breath of fresh air! Even pro’s sometimes want days off! You are human! haha…What are some of your nutrition tips for staying hydrated and fuelled during training? Staying hydrated all day long. I am never without a water bottle in hand. I also like to have snacks throughout the day to keep my blood sugar level so it never spikes and I stay energized throughout the day. I like powerbar proteinplus bites in oatmeal. They are so easy to snack on and super healthy!

Oohhh, I’ll have to try the power bites in my oats! What has been your absolute most favorite race? Ironman Hawaii world championship 2010 hands down. This has been my dream race and it was everything I imagined it to be. Swim was superb, the energy on the side lines before the cannon was incredible and there was so many fish! The bike was challenging with its winds and heat but I will never forget the turn around on the bike course in the town of Hawi. There were so many people cheering and waving! It was a burst of energy! The run could have been better for me because I ran into some nutrition problems and felt sick the last ½, but even though I wasnt having my best run out there it was so incredible the camaraderie out there. I met some wonderful people out on that run course! The finish line was nothing I had ever seen before. So much energy and love for every single athlete who crossed the line. Ironman world championship was truly incredible.

WOW. Just WOW! What are some “insider” tips you would give to someone just getting into triathlons? Race simulation is key for newbies in the sport. I remember my first triathlon I didnt know what to expect and panicked during the swim. Get some friends together and go for a mass swim in open water. This way you will know what to expect during the first leg of the race. It is usually quite chaotic during a mass start and if you are in a lake be prepared to sight often and practice doing that because it is horrible to find you have veered off course. Try some brick workouts too where you do a training ride and then immediately hop off your bike, throw on your shoes and run.shannon coates, mass swim, triathlon

I know, the mass swims freak me out- good idea to do some practice before hand! Besides triathlons, what are some other things you enjoy doing? I enjoy yoga and healthy eating. I love cooking and putting together really healthy foods that taste really yummy. I also really appreciate beautiful photography. Modeling can be so artful if done right.

Well, you make a stunning model as well, What is your favourite beauty product? Del Sol nail polish. It changes color in the sun!!!!shannon coates

Sweet! Ok…more serious, What is your biggest fear? disappointing myself. I am a passionate person and I put my whole heart into things. The last thing I want to feel is that I didnt give my all somewhere. It frustrates me to work so hard for something only to crack somewhere. That would be a disappointment for me, the fact I couldnt mentally get past something and I fear that feeling.

I think you need that fire in order to be such an elite athlete, in Ironman’s no less! What is your favourite quote? To give anything less then your best is to sacrifce the gift -Prefontaine

I’m writing that down! Ok, what’s your greatest achievement? 4th place 20-24 age group at Ironman World championship!!

That’s HUGE! If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be? Craig Alexander- he is kind of amazing..just a little bit (sense sarcasm?)Craig Alexander

Hee, hee, can I come? Who do you admire? Anyone who gives everyday their all. Someone who is gracious and humble. Someone who wakes up every morning loving themselves and everyone around them and wants to share that love through a positive attitude day in and day out.

Very well said. What is something about yourself people may not know? I have always wanted to become a doctor because I have always admired the human body for its vast capabilities. I know I can spend a lifetime learning about it and never get bored and always remain fascinated.

Cool! What is something that makes you smile? A sleeping puppy curled up in a little ball.

Awww.. k, last question…..what do you do to RELAX? I like going to the dog park with my little maltese and watch her run around and play with the other dogs.

Thank you so much Shannon for taking the time to talk with us! You are such a huge inspiration and talent. When you get 1st in the Ironman I am going to be yelling- “I interviewed her! I interviewed her!”

I wish you all the best! Follow Shannon’s Blog here. Her website is here!

It’s days like this when I am so happy I started this blog! To have the opportunity to talk with such amazing women. My work is DONE! (for the day? maybe for the week? It’s already Thursday…Is champagne day for real??)

    xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  • Happy February 1st!

I always look forward to the 1st of each month- not because YAY I get to pay my rent, but because, as many of you know- we feature the “Tomboy That Wears Makeup Of The Month.” The  TTWM Of The Month is a beautiful, inspiring, motivating woman that is putting big energy into the universe. My lovely lady this month is of course nothing short of amazing.

Her name? Skinny Runner (this is what she goes by in the blogging community) Oh, and yes, she is a blogger. I have no idea really how I came across her blog. I am discovering how intertwined this whole blogging world is and I somehow stumbled across her website. I check out A LOT of blogs, and this one stuck. I have her bookmarked and visit pretty much everyday.

My stalking of SR (skinny runner) goes a bit further than just reading her blog. She lives in California now, but is originally from Washington (just below Vancouver, BC). One day she was talking about getting her hair done and how even though she lives in CA, she still gets her hair done by her awesome hairdresser Ashely in Bellingham, WA….Sooooo, seeing as I think SR has a perfect shade of blond, when I decided to change my hair back to blond from brown, you guessed it- I went to Washington to get it done! And Ashley the hairdresser did a fantastic job and I will definitely be going back. So thank you SR for sharing your secrets;)

The reason I like SR so much? She is a super funny, down to earth- what you see is what you get type of girl. She is gorgeous and likes to look good, but she is also not afraid to show sweaty running pictures, or pictures of her in her fishing gear. (She works on her family owned and operated fishing boat 3 months a year and fishes with her family.) She runs a ton of half marathons and marathons throughout the year and get this- SHE IS FAST TOO!

Ok,  I’ll stop gushing, read on as we have a lil chat……

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a 28 yr old trophy wife just trying to figure out how to pick the winning lotto numbers. I dream big.

So, what inspired you to create Skinny Runner?

I wanted to talk about myself. seriously.

Once I started blogging, I realized more what type of blogs I liked, what drew me to them, what interested me, so SR really became the blog that I’d want to read if I wasn’t me. (I swear I’m not that narcasstistic)

I want to motivate people, encourage people, educate people, but at the heart of it all, I want to entertain people. I hope they get a smile or a giggle (or a gut busting, milk shooting out the nose laugh) from what I write.

I definitely laugh when I read your blog..and I get motivated, what are some of your running goals?

Run a sub 3:20 marathon. I’m 54 seconds away but that kinda seems like a lifetime right now.

You are so fast! Would you ever get a coach?

No, at least not at this point in my life. I run purely for myself (wow, does that sound selfish or what?!) and I want to run on my time, when I want, how I want to. I don’t want anyone telling me how to run. I swear I don’t have a problem with authority…

How many races will you do this year? Hmmm thats a good question. Last year I ran 21 and so far in 2011 I’ve ran 2 halfs and a marathon so I think I could safely shoot for 1000. Reach for the stars, right?

21 races in 12 months?? That’s incredible…What has been your absolute most favorite race?

Rock ‘n’ Roll Vegas Marathon in December 2009 was my first marathon and the first time that I BQ (Boston Qualified) so that will always be special, but NYC Marathon takes the cake. It was awesome, the whole experience. Almost surreal.

    (SR at the NYC Marathon)

I would LOVE to run the NYC Marathon. What are some “insider” tips you would give to someone just getting into running?

Get fitted for proper shoes that fit your needs. That’s an easy way to prevent injuries. Everything starts from the feet up. -Sign up for a race. It’s a great way to have a deadline to force you to train and get your runs in. -Buy a few cute, comfortable running clothes. They don’t have to be expensive but things that you feel good in. Who wants to run looking ugly?!?!

Exactly! BTW (here’s a video I made on finding proper shoes) Ok, besides running, what are some other things you enjoy doing?

Does reading People.com count or just make me supremely lame? I love to travel and try to get anyone I know to go on vacation with me. I’m a pretty serious vacationer. I mean, I could go pro at it maybe.

I’ll go with you!!! You always look good, even when your running, what is your favourite beauty product?

If I had to pick only one, I’d say black eyeliner. It makes you look put together even when your life’s a mess. If I could pick another, I’d say dry shampoo. I like messy, dirty hair but greasy, stringy hair isn’t quite as attractive…

    skinny runner 2011

    What is your biggest fear?

My mom dying. I really like her and would like her to stick around for awhile.

    skinny runner

Seems like (from what you post) you are very close with your family. It is nice to see. What is your favourite quote?

“Life is tough but God is good” by Tony Dungy

I like it;) What is your greatest achievement?

Maturing and getting my life together, marrying someone who loves the Lord and loves me. He better or else I’ll beat him…

haha, If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?

NFL quarterback Tim Tebow: fantastic athlete, amazing work ethic, and incredible character. Now that professional sports, especially the NBA and NFL, are pretty much known for drug charges, rape charges, and paternity lawsuits, Tebow is the anomaly. EVERYONE hates on the guy (‘He’s too much of a goody goody, he’ll never make it in the NFL”) and yet he conducts himself with maturity and grace, sticking firm to his beliefs and morals.

Someone who is great athlete, with a strong work ethic, character and morals would definitely make for a sweet lunch date – Who do you admire?

So it might be obvious I have a Tim Tebow crush… but I admire people who stand up for their beliefs even when it goes against what’s popular. It’s easy to say, hard to do! And my mom, she defines selflessness. I wish I could say that about myself.

    skinny runner compression socks

I’m sure you are selfless enough SR….What is something about yourself people may not know?

When I was born I came out wearing Christian Louboutins. Actually, I had to wear a girdle-stirrup contraption for a few months when I was born because the doctor thought he heard a clicking in one of my hips which could mean one leg would be shorter than the other. To this day, I blame every bad race on it.

HAHA!  I’m smiling right now, what is something that makes you smile?

Making up words and phrases with my husband… how the heck did we come up with “schwertner doiburger” and what in the world does it mean? We are two peas on the same short bus.

I love how you always call him by a different name, (one day you’ll make headlines- “What will skinny Runner call her husband today???”

And last question…What do you do to RELAX?

Run. seriously. It makes life better and me less crazy.

I think your on to something with all this running. You definitely motivate, entertain, inspire and make people laugh. Thank you so much for doing this interview. Come to Vancouver and do a race??? Or maybe I’ll see you at the NYC marathon sooner than later;)

I am going for a swim, then running tonight with my triathlon club. If I ever don’t feel like working out, I know where to go for a push! Skinnyrunner.com is open 24/7!!

    WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO PARTY TIME!!!

    XOXO

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

HOW WAS YOUR NIGHT? I had a really great NYE, champagne, hot tub, living room dance party….Oh, AND I GOT ENGAGED right at midnight… AHHH! I will share more later, but it was a magical evening and I am so happy.

I feel such an amazing vibe for 2011. The universe seems to be in tune with the intentions I am throwing out there. I hope you are feeling it too for all your dreams and goals and I wish you ALL THE BEST IN THIS BRAND NEW YEAR!!!

A few weeks ago when I thought to myself….”Who should I ask to be the ‘Tomboy Of The Month’ for January?” My next thought was, “Think Big Amanda! Who would be someone that seems out of reach? Ok…she popped in my head… NOW- GO ASK HER! Feel the fear and do it anyway! So I sent an email to Caitlin Boyle and her response was, “Sure thing!”

    WOW! Ok, here we go.

Watch this video to find out about Caitlin and her Operation Beautiful project/book.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Isn’t that inspiring? I know body image and the beauty standards of todays society is something I have struggled with over the years and I really appreciate her for making an effort to put an end to the nonsense that goes on in some of our heads. I wish I had this influence when I was 12 years old. I got bullied and harassed because I had boobs before everyone else….like it was a sin to be going through puberty or something?? (I used to layer 3 sweaters in the hot summer so people would see my “side view”). It really messed with my head back then to be completely honest. Well now, I encourage you to send your daughters to operationbeautiful.com.

She is also the woman behind a blog I go to EVERYDAY- healthytippingpoint.com

Thank you for being here girl!! Tell us a bit about yourself:)

My name is Caitlin Boyle, I am 26, and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am married to a wonderful guy named Kristien who is a Chinese Medicine Doctor and have two awesome doggies. I like running, reading, and cooking! (Here are Caitlin’s running tips, and here are some of her favorite recipes)
Nice! Your husband seems so sweet and supportive. I love that you help him out at his new Holistic Wellness Clinic. You 2 are such a team.

Here is Caitlin and Kristien when he graduated!

Caitlin at the Wellness Clinic playing receptionist:)

So, what inspired you to create Operation Beautiful?

I was inspired to start Operation Beautiful after having a really bad day at work; I wanted to do something small and simple for someone else to make me feel better!

If you weren’t a blogger/writer what would you want to be?

I would love to me a race director or work for a Girls on the Run council.

    Such a great cause!

What is your favorite Beauty Product?

    MAC concealer. LOVE that stuff.
Great product. I get 40% off at MAC- if we ever meet, let me know and I’ll grab some for you, haha!

On a more serious note, what is your biggest fear?

Not being able to have children!
I have faith you will have NO problem having kids!

Have you ever felt like giving up?

Professional, no. I always knew there was something better and now that I’m there, I want to maintain it no matter what! Personally, of course. I think it’s hard to stay on track with my healthy habits and not back slide into my unhealthy vices, like drinking too much.
Interesting, the thorn in my side involves unhealthy backslides as well, such as drinking to much and not being as healthy as I know in my heart that I want to be! It’s something I am bound to work on this year…

    What is your favorite quote?

Love should come first, it should be the reason for and the beginning of everything.
Ohhh, I like that… what would you say is your greatest achievement?

    Making my blog my career.

Ummm, ya, not to shabby;) If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?

My best friend Sarah. She lives in Virginia and I miss her so much!

    Who do you admire?

Molly Barker, the founder of Girls on the Run.

What is something about yourself people may not know?

I majored in marketing before changing my major to writing!

What is something that makes you smile?

    My doggies!

Cute! What are your New Years Resolutions?

Eat cleaner, write my second and third book, buy a house, and get pregnant!
Your going to be an amazing mom! What do you do to RELAX?

    Nap. I love napping!!!

It’s always nice to have a time out! Nice thing about working from home. We work LONG hours, but your bed is very close if you need to take a break! THANK YOU Caitlin for stopping by! All the best in the New Year. We all look forward to reading about what the year brings you. Keep it up!!!

(I like this video too, so I wanted to show it to you guys:)

    Have a wonderful Jan.1 2011!!!!

    Love and light!!

    Amanda

  • Hey!
Happy December! Last month of 2010, let’s make it an incredible one. This is the time of year we all over-indulge and lose track of our fitness goals, but we don’t have to. Let’s stay aware of our goals and walk proudly into 2011.

I have the perfect motivation for you. I am sooo honoured and grateful for this month’s Tomboy of the Month. Her name is Svetlana Romanova, she is a superstar athlete/model/trainer.

Welcome Svetlana! Tell us a bit about yourself:

I was raised in city Tomsk, Siberia (Russia). I am getting cold even to think about my motherland:)
In my childhood I was very much a tomboy:)
I had always been an active child but I never participated in any sports in my childhood and could not do even one push up.
When I was 16 years old, my friends and I went for a walk and I saw freestyle skiers going down the slope and doing crazy jumps in the air… I stopped, I could not breathe and I felt something strange happened inside me. I had such a strong emotion when I saw brave people doing flips in the air. I did not sleep and was crying all night, I woke up in the morning and set a big goal to become a professional mogul skier and I could not think about anything else since.

I was already 16 years old and I never skied before in my life. Everyone was telling me that it`s already too late to start a mogul career but I did not listen and believed that one day people will see me competing at a World Championship. The first year of skiing was horrible and very hard. I was falling down every second and even kids in my sports school laughed at me. But I believed in myself and focused all of my energy to get through that shame.

Within one year of intense practices I started to compete in extreme sport-mogul skiing in my region, next year I went to Russian Championship and later I competed at the National Russian team for a several years. It was an amazing time of my life! I felt absolutely fearless and happy.

I moved to Canada four years ago. I always wanted to live in a more progressive country and one day I googled “best city in the world” and Vancouver popped up. I decided to apply for immigration. When I got my visa, I packed up and moved. For the first couple of months, the only words I knew were, “Hi” and “How are you?” The first year of immigration was probably the hardest year in my life.

At the moment I am a WBFF PRO Fitness Model, WBFF BC Fitness Model Champion, Bikini model, personal fitness trainer and Group Fitness Leader in Vancouver.

Well, you did come to the best city;) You are so driven and determined. Wow! How did you get into the fitness business and what inspires you to keep pursuing it?

As you already know, I trained at the professional/Olympic level for Freestyle Mogul skiing for several years and after several serious back and knee injuries I could not compete anymore. I could not even walk for a while. When I started to walk again, I enrolled in a group fitness leader course.

My knee was swollen after each workout – I had to puncture my knee joint each time to be able to continue working out. It was painful and annoying but I had promised myself that I will try a new career and I would not give up. In a few months I became a certified fitness trainer.
I always have been very ambitions, so in a few months later I borrowed money and opened my own fitness club in my city, later I opened Dance school and Tanning salon and successfully ran it all for 5 years.

When I decided to move to Canada, I could not sell my club because it felt like selling your own baby. I thought I will control my business through the internet and everything will be fine! But it did not happen I lost all my money, property and sold my business.
So, I am starting everything from scratch again in a new country!

Canada is lucky to have you! You don’t take a bad picture Svetlana! What is your Favourite Beauty Product?

Yves Saint Laurent Shimmering Lip Gloss

    What is your Biggest fear?

My biggest fear is facing the death of loved ones.

    How about your Favourite quote?

Thinking like a winner, behaving like a winner is essential to victory!

Ohhh, I like that one, it is so true. What is your greatest achievement?

I think I have 3 big achievements and I don’t know which one is greatest:) So please you pick one you like better;)
    1. Becoming a member of Russian National mogul skiing in 2 years after I put the skis on for the first time in my life.
    2. When I got my first fitness certificate, I borrowed money from friends and started teaching group fitness classes in a basement. I was an instructor, receptionist and a clean-team at the same time. I worked very hard and always believed that it will be the best fitness center in my city one day! In a few years it became the most successful club in my region!
    3. I competed for the first time in my life in fitness competition at the WBFF BC Championship this year in April, and I became an overall champion in Fitness Model category, got a PRO card (without even knowing what it means) and also placed 3rd in Bikini Model competition.

Congrats! Your hard work is definitely paying off! Can you share a few insider tips on maintaining your level of health and fitness?

If you want to achieve something in life, first you have to make your mind to do so!
Set a goal, focus, believe and you will get anywhere you want in life!

If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?

    Probably Oprah Whitney

That would be cool, maybe you should train her too!!

    Who do you admire?

I have no role model and never had but there are a several qualities I admire in people.

What is something about yourself people may not know?
    I was overweight Ha-ha
As a teen, I regularly indulged in late-night snacks and began gaining weight in the
“problem areas” and felt very frustrated and insecure because of it.
I was always ambitious and wanted to look and feel my best, so I started to research proper nutrition. The book, “Miracle of Fasting”, by Paul Bragg changed my life. Its focus is on fasting but also touches on many aspects of healthy diet, water intake, and exercise. I set a goal to reach my ideal weight and was very happy when I achieve my target.
I got over weight twice in my life, each time after a sport injury.
The first time I gained a lot of weight was after I broke my back since I couldn’t walk for quite some time. I gained 50lb . I became depressed. Doctors told me that I would never be able to compete again. I refused to believe it. I discovered a book called, “Story of a real man”, which told the tale of an amputee – I read it multiple times. It made me realize the great power of the human spirit!
I began training harder than ever before. One year later, I returned to the sport to compete with the Russian National team again.
A couple of years later I injured myself once again, this time it was a knee injury (menisci, broken ligaments, progressive arthritis). After knee surgery I couldn’t walk for months, and I gained 50lbs again. I felt miserable and hated how I looked.
I was even embarrassed to be seen in public, let alone at a public pool or the beach. I made a decision to never feel that way ever again!

Wow, and now you give supermodels a run for their money!

What is something that makes you smile?

Lot’s of things. I smile very often:)

Ok, what were all thinking….How do you stay so motivated? HELP! ;)
Write down your long term goals, break down them to short ones. Realize why you want to achieve them, imagine you are already there, FEEL it and then focus on what you have to do to get there!

What are your New Years Resolutions?
I usually don’t say things until it happened but I have an ambitious goals this year;)

I believe it….any Christmas Traditions you look forward to?
Russian tradition is to spend Christmas and New Year with your family.
Unfortunately I have no family in Canada, New Year & Christmas is the most difficult time of the year to be honest.

Aw, you can hang out with me:) Well hopefully you can have some chill time this month, what do you do to RELAX?

I love going to the sauna to relax my brain and body:)
