  • Good morning!!

How are you? I’m great. I got up and listened to Morning Coach. I have been listening to the daily podcasts at Morning Coach for about 6 months now. I must say, it has really helped me grow myself as a person and stay on track. It’s $20/month- an awesome investment.

Today on the podcast, they talked about goals. Dreams are goals with deadlines. Here are some tips on goal setting:

    1. Write your goals down on paper
    2. Be specific and clear, as detailed as possible. Don’t just say you want to lose 10 pounds. Say the date, the time, and what steps you need to take to get you there
    3. Be aware of what obstacles you may encounter. How will you handle it?
    4. Control your focus. (this is a big one for me. I get really excited about different things and can veer off track. I need to work on having a set number of goals and focus on only them)
    5. WHY are you wanting to achieve this goal? You have to have a big enough reason why you want this.
    6. Visualize yourself achieving this goal. How do you feel?

Another thing I think that helps with reaching your goals is sharing them with a close friend, a loved one, or with the world like me on this blog, lol. That way you are held accountable and have the support from others. Look at Marianne for example. She has been sharing her journey on reaching her goals with us and it is so AWESOME! If you are just tuning it, Check here, then here. She is once and for all getting to her goal weight and I couldn’t be more proud. I talked to Marianne yesterday and she is doubling up her workouts a few times a week.  We will have another update with her on Nov.29!

Have you set goals in the past and not reached them? Then watch this:

    Never give up!

I have set a new goal.
Do yoga for 30 days in a row at Semperviva Yoga. On Oct. 30 they started a 40 day yoga challenge. I am joining in a few days late, but this will be a huge challenge for me regardless.

    Now…the WHY.

    - I want to prove to myself that I can complete a goal I set.

    - I know the benefits of yoga are life changing, not only physically, but mentally

    - It will help me stay zen and calm in other areas of my life

    - I feel so tight right now, let’s Increase my flexibility

    - Get involved in the community. Over 200 people signed up for the challenge!

    - Be the change I want to see

If you want to get involved! Come join me! There are 145 classes a week to pick from. Check out Semperviva.

I remember the first yoga class I ever went to was in LA. I was so nervous- I had a freaking supermodel next to me. Shalom Harlow was right beside me!!!She was definitely an experienced yogi and insanely flexible.

    Me….not so much….but I fake it til I make it!“Ommmmmmmm.”;)

To be completely honest, I usually don’t like the month of November. Lame hey? To not like a month? Lame…and weird? But I am turning that around and making November the best month EVER. It’s all perception baby!

Ok…..SO…..are you in? What are your goals?

    Have a wonderful day!

NAMASTE! (I see your light) xoxo

  • Hellllllooooooo!

How are you? I am very good!! This post is up wayy later than I had planned, but that’s how she goes.

What we are talking about today is my morning healthy green shake which is starting to become a habit.

Here’s me in my morning curlers, post shake! Happy!

I am really enjoying it…and the benefits it provides! I have been getting questions on how to make it and what’s in it…
I usually make this shake right upon waking..(hence the title..Wake…..and SHAKE! (clever, I know;)
But I wanted to make a little video for you, so you can get the visual of the whole experience!
Enjoy! (and don’t mind the bad lighting in my kitchen)

YESSS…(like the Coors Light mug? lol)

For more information on the amazing Vancouver based Organic Lives, their website is here

Another feature I added to the site is my weekly workouts. Look up at the top right of the website. It says “Weekly Workouts”. I will document my “desired” training schedule, and beside it, I will put what I actually did. I was going to write these goals down in a book of mine, but then I saw the idea on another blog to put it on the website…. I thought…why not put it on here? BAM

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! Are you going to try the shake? Share it with others if you like it!!

    Talk soon!

    xoxoxo

  • YO!

HOW ARE YOU! Getting ready for Halloweeeeeeen?? I noticed quite a few costumes out last night, but also I walked to Tim’s to get a coffee this morning and I saw this guy who was clearly just making it home from a big party the night before. He was stumbling along the street in his police costume.  His handcuffs were hanging out of his pocket. It was a pretty funny sight.

Along with your Halloween festivities, I want to share with you an update on Marianne! If you are unfamiliar with this story, click here to get caught up. Marianne is back a month later to let us know where she is at! She has a mission to reach her goal weight by Dec/29/2010 (Dec.29 is her 29th birthday, so it just works!)

    What challenges have you faced?

I had an amazing visit with family a few weeks ago! I am so very thankful for the time we got to spend together, but I did find it challenging while they were here to get as many workouts in as I would normally, and I indulged more than I would if I didn’t have special guests. My challenge was to get myself right back on track after the visit was over, and not let myself get discouraged or feel guilty because I wasn’t 100% on target.(While I was up in Yellowknife, Mari still did a stand up job of making it to the gym!)

    What success’ have you celebrated?
During one of my workouts, Kate had me do an exercise with a 30lb dumbbell. I realized as I was lifting it, that I’ve already shed more than that much weight off my body. It felt amazing to know that I’m lifting nearly as much weight as I’ve lost, and that I’m not carrying that extra 30lbs around on my body anymore! (wow, that is soooo frikin cool)

I also have a few outfits in my closet that I’ve been holding onto to track my success and keep me motivated. This morning, I tried on a pair of pants (one size smaller than usual) which, less than a month ago, I wouldn’t have felt comfortable wearing in public… not only was I able to do them up, I didn’t have to hold my breath! So rewarding to see in a very measurable way how my hard work and sweat is paying off!! (yessssss!!!!)

Woah, your totally airborne in that picture! What thoughts/goals keep you motivated and moving forward?
I feel extremely inspired by the people in my life who see changes in me that I maybe don’t see or don’t think someone else would notice. Every time my clothes get a little baggier it makes me want to work harder, and every time someone says, ‘I want to go to workout with you,’ or, ‘you can do push-ups on your toes?!’ it makes me want to push even harder to see how much more I can do! Most importantly though, I feel motivated by how strong and proud I feel – something I haven’t felt about my body in a long time – and how those feelings, along with my confidence, are going to grow as I get closer to reaching my goal.

Awww, that makes me emotional:( That is so inspiring! I suck at doing push ups on my toes!!! Good for you.

What can we expect next month?

I am at a point now where workouts are part of my routine. Whether it’s a session with Kate (my amazing personal trainer), spin, or one of my favourite group fitness classes at the gym, I feel like I’m in a really good groove there. This next month I’m going to focus on my nutrition. I’m going to track my calories, review (and get back to) the food plan my naturopath set out for me, try some new recipes, and limit treats to once per week. You can expect that I’m going to stay motivated and determined and that getting my nutrition in line with my workouts will help me power towards my goal!!

Any tips you have discovered you would like to share?
I’m learning the importance of keeping workouts fresh –not only will this prevent you from getting bored, it’ll keep your body guessing. I really believe that when we step out of our comfort zones we grow – in all aspects of our lives. I tried a kick boxing class this week – it’s not going to be my new favourite thing, but it had me using my muscles in a different way and I had fun with the other ladies I went with!

I’m also trying to set smaller goals for myself within my ultimate goal daily. For example, eat an extra serving of veggies, try a new recipe, or drink all eight glasses of water. Each positive choice I make helps me get closer to my ultimate health and fitness goals!

DOUBLE YESSSSS, NO..NO…TRIPLE YESSSSS! Keep it up! You are more dedicated than me right now….and I thank you again for doing this post and helping me (and others) get inspired.

My quote of the day is my favorite quote that I wrote in my high school year book…..

TAKE PRIDE IN HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME..

HAVE FAITH IN HOW FAR YOU WILL GO!!

    Have an awesome Halloween Everybody!!!

  • haha…..not those NUTS….. read on, read on…

SUNDAY… I like to call it FUNDAY.

Here are some things I am enjoying today:

*waking up and walking to Tim’s for a double double and a bagel (special Sunday treat)

*going to Costco and returning the enormous bottle of fabric softener that I thought was laundry detergent

    *practicing with my choir

*helping my bff get her blog off the ground by contacting my web guy

*resetting goals for the week, planning out what we need to get done and writing out a timeline to do them
(like starting up P90X again, committing to waking up at 5:15 so I can get a jump start on my voice auditions-(I compete with the East coasters who get up earlier cause of the time change, so I need to start when they do!) Also I need to keep promoting my makeup business daily on Craigslist)

*going to the Farmers Market and stalking up on 4 huge bags of veggies and only spending $33.82

Part of the reason I need so many veggies is because I have been diligently making the morning green shake that I learnt about from Preet at Organic lives
My second day in a row of making this puppy:
    Drink up buttercup!
The taste is growing on me and the vitality it provides is priceless!

Next on the agenda is soaking some nuts…YUM!!! HAHA
Seriously though, Preet told us that it is ideal to soak your nuts with water and put in the fridge for about 12 hours before you eat them.
The reason behind this is it helps us absorb the enzymes and nutrients better. Your body will benefit by more efficiently processing the wonderful qualities almonds have, including the hard to absorb vitamin B!

So tell me….are you gonna soak your nuts??? hahaha

    K…next…lol..
Last night I had the opportunity to chat via Skype with my dear friend Janna and her new son Jack! It was so much fun. He is such a sweet little boy (He’s like…mom…your embarrassing me!)
And of course, meeting Jack for the first time wouldn’t be right if I didn’t dress up like the dorky Auntie that I am

Poor kid eh, with an aunt like that??? haha..

K well…I better go check on my nuts….
    Enjoy your Funday!
    XOXO

  • Good Afternoon!

I am back to my chipper, life loving, somewhat hyper self today. Could be because I had such a life changing night last night.

I went to a 3 hour class called “Introductory to Healthy Living and Live Foods with a cooking demo” at Organic Lives (which is located on Quebec and 2nd in Vancouver) I could write 17 blogs about everything I learned, but I will try to just keep it to the basics.

Preet Marwaha is the owner and operator of Organic Lives and he also taught our workshop last night. He has spent countless years studying the nutritional, chemical, physical, emotional, political, environmental, and socioeconomic dynamics of the human/food relationship.  He has such a passion for sharing his knowledge of living an organic raw/vegan/live foods lifestyle. He also has an undeniable culinary talent and the proof is in the pudding (or the ridiculous chocolate cake!)

Here’s the kitchen, where the magic happens!

I know for many of us who are just getting into the clean, unprocessed, organic eating- it can all seem a bit overwhelming and intimidating. However, I am learning that if we take baby steps towards healthier living it is more sustainable and permanent.

Why not start with cutting out processed sugar? Last night we had the most scrumptious macaroons and they were made with Raw Cacao Powder, coconut and a hint of maple syrup. It tasted so good one would think it is “bad”, but there was not a sliver of unnatural products and it even has more antioxidants in it than 2 cups of blue berries.

Another baby step I have made is cutting out cream and sugar in my coffee. I know the “ultimate” would be to cut it out all together, but I’m pretty pumped I made the choice to ditch cream and sugar and drink black coffee…good start!

Something I really enjoyed about the workshop was that Preet was not judging anyone. In the class, it was evident that we all had different eating patterns and he merely gave suggestions or alternatives rather than saying it’s his way or the highway. I agreed with everything he said though.

One thing that hit a homerun for me was his morning shake. He said that this shake will change your life. Try it for 30 days and see. I am going to try it!

    Preet’s magical Shake

    - 1/2  a Cucumber

    - 2 stalks of Celery

    - handful of Parsley

    - handful of Cilantro

    - 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon

-1/4 cup (or as much as you want) of raw peeled ginger

    - ripened frozen banana for taste (optional)

Toss it in your blender or processor.

I would say the taste will take a bit to get used to, but the benefits are phenomenal. Here is my “I’m not sure if I like it yet, but I am going to force myself to like it” face.

    Instantly feel reenergized!

Preet then proceeded to make us Zucchini pasta. He used this awesome kitchen tool called a Spirooli. I am buying one of these bad boys asap! They are only $40 at Organic Lives, get yours here.

After making the “pasta”, add your homemade marinara, spices, red pepper and top it of with some “parmasean” cheese (which he made with ground brazil nuts)  and look at the masterpiece

    YUM. Seriously delicious, nutritious food.

If  you want to check out a class with Preet, click Here. You will love it. He has one more class next Thursday and then he is gone for bit to Thailand to manage his Coconut Water production plant.

Thank you Preet! I will be back (like probably later today!)

Also a special thanks to Andrea from Go Lucky Photo for coming along and snapping some shots!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Have you made any baby steps to live a healthier life?
