• Yep, that’s right- I just created my own triathlon. Run, Swim and Spa:)

I woke up at 6:30am, and made it to The Right Shoe by 8am for a 60 minute run with the half marathon group. Nice thing about The Right Shoe is that they have drop in sessions for all of their training sessions, so my friend Jaclyn came and ran with us!

drop in session at the right shoe

Jaclyn and I went to high school together. The great thing is- when I see her- I never have to explain myself. Like who I am, what I’m about….The fact that, yes I am crazy, but I have a heart of gold. She just gets me. I see her, give a high five and away we go…

Jaclyn is thinking about joining my triathlon club… I’m not trying to be pushy or persuasive. But…DO IT!! lol!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!  The first week is the most intimidating, you don’t know anyone, (except me) or how hard it is going to be, etc. After the first week, you get in a groove. You get in a flow and it’s almost like an addiction- a positive one mind you. I crave the training now. My life has never felt more on track than it has in the last 3 weeks. No joke. I feel unstoppable. In my training, my career and my life.

Jaclyn is an all-star cyclist, so she could teach me a thing or 2…or 3… or 4….

I heart you Jaclyn and am soo proud of all you’ve accomplished. Career wise, MBA wise, life wise and athletic wise;)

After our run, I drove home, (I drove to save time because I have a super busy day) put my bathing suit on and went down to my pool for 30 laps. In my schedule game plan, we were to work on drills during the swim, so I incorporated some finger drags and superman flutters.

Then I jumped in the shower and made my way to The Absolute Spa at Century City. It is my good friend Andrea’s birthday tomorrow, so we started today with a SPA day. Here is a photo of my facebook status

Yeeeeep! It has been that fun. The strawberries were chocolate covered btw. I think girl spa days are a must. It was such a blast. I had cucumbers on my eyes tooo

I will get into more details tomorrow. We are on our way to dinner at Coast, I have curlers in my hair and need to get some makeup on.

Hope your weekend has been great. Talk to you sooon! I heart you!!

  • Happy Hump day!

Hope all is well in your world. Into week 3 of Triathlon Training. Last night before our group run we had Sports Psychologist Roger Friesen from UFV come and talk to us about how to get Beyond the Push, Pull and Drag of your training. He has spent a great deal of his career working with Elite Olympians and top notch athletes, helping them stay on top of their game not only physically, but mentally as well.roger friesen, UFV,

And isn’t the mental jingle jangle most of the battle anyway? I really enjoyed his talk.

Here are a few points Roger shared that I will relay to you in my own words:

    - You will never know if you can do something or not- unless you try.

    - Do not try to achieve perfection, there is noooo such thing, instead- Strive for Excellence.

    - Always write down your goals- (even have a goal for each workout, whether it is making a certain time, working on form, or just getting through it)

    - Celebrate even the simplest of goals achieved, such as getting outside for that run- even if you don’t feel like it (and be truly happy about it! Smile, be excited, CELEBRATE!)

    - Don’t let your external environment influence your motivation. Example: If you committed to running outside on Sunday am and it is pouring rain, don’t let the rain stop you. It’s part of your plan, so do it.

    - Why do you want to achieve your goal?

    - Accountability is crucial. Let friends and family know your plan, so they can celebrate with you and help hold you accountable. (Blogging helps too- I don’t know if I would have ever been this pumped up if I wasn’t writing and sharing with you every step of the way!)

That’s all I can remember (lol) I didn’t have a pen and paper, because right after the talk, we went out and RAN! We worked on some drills like: excels, karaoke (cross stepping) a skate running (like your skating on cement), and we did “up and over” hill training. The hill was a really gradual slope and it wasn’t too long either. I tried to hold good form throughout.

One thing my coach mentioned to us before we started was – HAVE FUN! Don’t take things to seriously. Play! It’s so true, just PLAY! Life is good.

As I ran home, I was really grateful. Grateful for the opportunity to train like this and SOOOO thankful for a healthy body to do it.

I did some stretching when I got home, as Tuesdays are always jam packed training days. I swam yesterday too

Ready to hear about my big mathematic upset???? I was doing twice as many laps as I needed too!!! Mike came down to snap a few pictures:

he says, “So…How many laps are you doing?

    I say, “I have to do 48″

he says, “you have to swim 2 km?’

I was silent. I grabbed my phone to do some calculating. YUP- I had been swimming twice as far as my program states. The bad news is, I suck at math and I put out way more effort than I needed. The good news is, I just got all that extra training under my belt…

Since I now had extra time in the pool, I practiced how I am going to start my next Trithlon on April 16 in Delta:

    GET SET…

HAHA,  Wait til you see me on the BIKE!

On a more serious note- Do you have a mantra or positive statement that you repeat in your head while running?

    Have a wonderful day!

    Happy TRI-ing!!

  • Hello there!

This is a happy, positive blog, but I briefly have 2 complaints….

I rushed to Long and McQuade music store last night to get a desk top mic stand before they closed. I got home and opened up the box and it is missing a bunch of pieces….

Looks like a metal plunger!!  That’s all that was in the box. What the heck am I going to do with that???? GRRRRR

Then last night, I went to Whole Foods to willingly pay $700 for a head of lettuce just because it is organic and good for me. The cashier put my lettuce at the bottom of the bag and pilled cans and stuff on top. Not only did my $700 lettuce get crushed- on my way to my vehicle the handle ripped off the bag because it was packed too heavy and the groceries fell to the ground…

Here’s a picture I took when I was still happy and the food was sliding down the belt:)

    food from wholefoods vancouver

Things in my overstuffed grocery bag:

very expensive overpriced frozen blueberries, to add to my:
    Steel cut oats
    Amy’s Soup
Soup Broth to make my own veggie soup….ohhhhh
    frozen veggies (peas, brocoli, spinach)
    chick peas
    black beans
pitted dates, dried cranberries and nuts to make my own energy bars
    firm tofu
    “crushed lettuce”
    some other veggies
    pirates booty (fun snack)
rice cakes (I’m gonna make my own almond butter so I need something besides apples to put my butta on!
Mustard (I wanna make veggie burgers as soon as I have time)

My first grocery shop of the year was a success. Now…If I can only eat this good all year….lol

See….now I’m happy…talked through my frustration and we are moving on!

It is DAY 1 of my triathlon training today. I got 7 downloads from my coach Lara, including my training schedule, hydration and nutrition tips, a breakdown on training zones and intensities- (which will be good, and challenging for me because I only have one intensity level- SLOW.)

My swim this morning was 4 x 250m at a light intensity. I calculated how far that is in my dinky pool- 48 COMPLETE LAPS! WOAH.

I did it! 48 laps this morning. Took me about an hour.  (hot pic I know…)

I am ALSO running today with the club at 6pm, it’s our first run together (we are not wasting ANYTIME getting into this program, lol)

I will most likely start doing 2 posts per day now. One will be just a regular ol post and the other will be a training diary of some kind. I made a new triathlon training link, so follow along- heck even join in. There is still time!

After the swim, I came upstairs ravenous- I invented a new shake! I call it:

    48 LAPS

    frozen berries
    frozen spinach
    half of a frozen banana
    Vega Powder
    freshly squeezed lemon and oj

    Blend and Serve!

Here’s me layering the frozen berries and spinach (first time I have EVER put spinach in a shake)

Then added half a frozen banana and the Vega

Next up I squeezed some lemon and OJ into it (you could use any juice- the fresher the better!)

Add some water and BLEND ER UP And VOILA, the “48 Laps” is ready to inhale!

It tastes delicious and I feel GREEEAAAAT. (take that Tony the Tiger- Meow!)

How is your year going so far? Any grocery store shopping adventures?

I better get onto some work! Hope all is well in your world! Talk sooooooon:)

  • Howdy!!

Monday afternoon already, time flies when you sleep in on your first day back to work! (on days like these, I am lucky I am my own boss, or I would be so fired) – but I’m still mad at myself because sleeping in won’t pay rent!! I couldn’t fall asleep last night though…..

Back to work reality and getting back into the groove has sunk back in, all is normal again- except for the fact that this diamond ring is still on my finger!! I’m pinching myself!!

(Oh and Brenda- if you read this- yes I did get Mike’s name tattoo’d on my ring finger:) Way before he decided he wanted to marry me- now THAT is FAITH! haha

I can’t thank everyone enough for the out pour of congrats and support. Means soo much. xoxo

Here’s a nice segway to get to the next topic….ring and green shake…..onto green shake…

Last week I asked who wanted to join me in a 3 day juice cleanse on Jan.1, 2 and 3rd, drinking the amazing green shake for 3 days! I had 5 people sign up (including myself) and 1 person actually followed through like a champion. Her name is Krista Vajgrt. I have been following her on facebook. Some of her status updates were:

“clean house, learning to quilt later! day one of my green juice fast”

” It taste very good! I add an extra banana to mine. I feel awesome! No caffeine for last 2 days either ! Wow!”

“Day 2 of the green shake fast and feel quite good. drinking tons of water too which is always a good thing”

“Day 3. and I feel awesome run this am was perfect I think after the 3 day fast I shall drink this green shake daily in the am “

I have been doing the fast for the past 3 days as well, except yesterday I had some veggie soup and added frozen veggies. Still really healthy, but not a true 3 day warrior like Krista! I am doing good today, but am ready to be done. I do feel AMAZING. Such an incredible way to re train those taste buds and get back to clean eating. The shake is here to stay though. It is SUCH a great booster. I can’t praise it enough. Recipe is here.

Next natural segway into the next topic…Ok, I don’t have a good segway…

TRIATHLON training STARTS TOMORROW.  WOAH NELLY. I just got 3 emails from my coach and I am scared to open them…haha just kidding.

Yes, I’m nervous, but also very excited. Check out this video we made yesterday. I call it

That was fun. ok…now back to work.

Hope you are all having an amazing day!

  • Hello Party People In The House!!!!!

    Happy New Years Eve!

Mike and I just got back from walking the seawall. I’ve lived here in Vancouver for years and I continue to be in awe of the beauty of this city

    Here is me tweeting….

    Mike took some pictures….

…while I talked on the phone to my friend Dee who is decided whether or not to take an last minute trip to Hawaii- I said DO IT!

Then Mike talked on the phone to his mom and then his buddy Travis…so my turn to take pictures
(I got the runner in on purpose for a little motivation…haha)

Now we are home briefly before heading out again to go to the bank, drop off rent check, etc. We have to quickly edit a voice project- I was FLOORED at how BUSY voiceovers were over the holidays… I am not complaining though….I am sooo happy with all the work we’ve gotten lately. I LOVE when Mike is home to produce and edit me….
He always saves the bloopers too…..
Here is me…..messing up the word imbibed (weird word in my opinion)

haha, some words just freak me out!!!
I want to blog about my New Years Resolutions, so I will do that later today. I also have an incredible Tomboy Of The Month for tomorrow….BUT FIRST…

Let’s check in with our girl Marianne, if you are just joining this blog, to track back, here is our first chat, second chat and third chat. She has been with us for 3 months, sharing her weight loss/healthy living transformation. I enjoy having her on the blog so much, I wanna see if she’ll stay with us into the new year…. Read on to find out where she is at…

What have you learned since starting this challenge three months ago?
I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity to share my weight loss journey – I have found it so inspiring and motivating and I really want to thank you for that, Amanda. J I’ve learned the importance of moving outside my comfort zone – it’s really when I grow the most as a person. I’ve learned how vital a support system is for me, and I’m so thankful for every single outstanding person in mine! And, most importantly, I’ve learned how balance is key – especially for health goals. I feel like I’ve finally accepted, after several failed attempts, that this is going to be a daily challenge for me, and a lifelong commitment. Achieving healthy weight loss cannot be done over night – it’s a LOT of hard work, but completely worth every bit of it!!

    Any New Years goals/resolutions?
Absolutely! I plan to continue to set goals for myself that will keep me motivated and challenged, including a 10K race in Vancouver this spring, and a half marathon in Yellowknife this coming summer! I am looking forward to getting married in September, and to continue working towards my holistic nutrition course. Follow through is going to be my biggest goal for 2011 – I am going to finish what I’ve started!!

Do you have a few tips for people who may be embarking on a new, healthier lifestyle?
Celebrate every positive step and achievement along the way and try not to focus only on the number on your scale. How do you feel? How has your fitness level improved? How do your clothes fit? Keep your workouts and recipes fresh! Enlist the help of a professional – sessions with a personal trainer are worth every penny – and several trainers will let you share sessions, and costs, with a friend – you’ll benefit from mixing up your routine and feel confident walking into the weight room with a plan. Brag a little – share your successes with others. You just never know how you will motivate and inspire!! People take notice – enjoy all the compliments you’ll receive along the way!

We’re dying to know… did you reach your weight loss goal?
My original goal was to lose 29 pounds before my 29th birthday. I am very proud of the efforts I’ve made with my nutrition and fitness and I can tell you that I celebrated my 29th birthday as the healthiest, and most fit I’ve been in several years. I have lost 15 pounds since I began this challenge for a total of 45 pounds since April! And I’ve realized that this goal doesn’t end for me at a certain date – I’ve made a commitment for myself to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. I’ve gone from a size 16 to 10 and honestly, I feel AMAZING right now!! Shopping for new clothes (and wedding dresses!) is actually something I’m having FUN doing instead of being something I dread. I am so close to my weight goal and I feel I have so many important tools and incredible support – I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Will you continue to give us updates and/or tips on your weight loss journey?

I would LOVE to keep you updated on my journey towards ultimate health and am so very looking forward to being able to announce when I have REACHED my weight goal!! I really feel this coming year is going to be amazing – filled with blessings and challenges for all of us that will enrich our lives and help us towards all of our personal growth goals!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

(I have to go drop off my rent check and run to bank…so talk soon!! )
