  • Hey!!!

    Sunday…Is Sunday a Funday for you, or a catch up on work, get ready for the week kind of day? Mine is usually a bit of both. Sometimes they are ALL OUT GNARLY TUBULAR FUN and sometimes Sunday’s ingredients are 1 cup of work, mixed with a dash of cleaning and organizing and a pinch of FUN… haha.

    I’m not even sure what today is yet…. I’m feeling a bit kooky though….ONE STEP AT A TIME AMANDA…

    I took a whole wack of steps this morning! On the triathlon training schedule today we had a 1hr run. I ran with the 10 minute mile group. I was feeling really strong and relaxed, despite the rain! We saw a bald eagle along the seawall..

    “Hey buddy! How’s the view up there?”

     

    There are SOOOO many runners out and about on Sunday mornings in Vancouver. I know there are a ton of running groups putting the training in for the 10km Sun Run on April 17!

    I don’t think I am going to run it. I will sure be there though! I believe we will be working with Stormtech that day doing some filming. Mike is going to run it and so is his sister!! (she is coming from Yellowknife to run her first 10km ever). When I finished my first 10km, it was such a great feeling. You feel accomplished and it also leaves you wanting more! What’s next? What other race can I do? ha, it’s a sensation I get after every race… ok, When is the next one!!?”

    WARNING: BRIDEZILLA MOMENT!

    Ok I’m not too bad, lol…I’m just putting down the work looking for things in Saskatoon like:

    - a dj

    - a photographer (that I only need to hire for a couple hours)

    - a potential place for a ceremony

    - Oh… and where should we go for our honeymoon????

    I was flipping through a wedding mag and guess what I saw? MY WORK! I know, you can barely see her face (Jaclyn and Maury are the hot couples names), but I did her wedding makeup last year (might have been 2 years now…)

    In exciting news, Mike and I have our engagement photo shoot booked!  At least we have that confirmed! Getting them done by Goluckyphoto.com YAY! In a couple weeks!

    Me and my best friend getting married;) I always say to him “hearts and kisses and love and butterflies”. He always says, “I get the first 3, but why the butterflies?”. I just like saying the word butterflies… deal with it!

    My next task at hand is to get everything ready for Frostbite 45 happening next weekend in Yellowknife! (The 45km trek in the artic that Mike and I are signed up for). I sure hope we see more northern lights!

    We are so lucky that most of our gear will be from Stormtech, so I am confident we will be warm enough, but I am STILL going to get a FULL FACE beleclava! I have seen the wind/sun burns some of these athletes get and I DO NOT want that!

    Sometime’s I have no shame! This was on the West Coast Trail last spring!!

    Okee dokeee.. I am going to get a move on the day (actually going to get Michael at airport… what a guy)

  • Hello!!

    Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I had a great one, worked a bit, relaxed a bit and if you read yesterdays post, I learnt a bit as well;)
    I woke up this morning to run 1hr40min with my club (with a tempo run the last 30 minutes..yikes). I was not sure how I was going to make it through, I just wasn’t feeling 100% up to par;) We all meet at The Right Shoe first to have a debriefing of our routes, pace groups, etc)

    And after our meeting, we all set out on our way. During our runs, there is always someone different to run with for a bit, talk too, share stories, how your feeling, etc. This morning I had the opportunity to hear first hand an amazing story by one of my club mates named Catherine. (her stories helped keep me going on our run!) She had just gotten back from a trip to St. Helena. At first when she said she went to St. Helena, I honestly had no idea where on earth this place was…so to save you any of the same mind boggle…this is where it is:st. helena, running festival
    Now to make a long story short…here are some bullet points of what happened in St. Helena. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ THE FULL STORY HERE

    -Catherine was going on a trip to St. Helena with her dad

    -She heard about a Running Festival that the Island had once a year in July (she was going in February, but she emailed the race director and asked if she could perhaps get a race t shirt)

    -They decided to impromptly organize a marathon for Catherine to do on her own while she was visiting the island!! And then she could attain one of these coveted running shirts

    -The only way to get to this island is by boat (on the boat, they threw a spontaneous fundraiser and raised over $1000 for St. Helena)st. helena boat- On the boat she met Bart Hackley, the man who holds the world record in the Guinness Book for the most triathlons completed in one year! WOW. (he ran with her a bit during her race)

    -Quote from the St.Helena Website:

    “St. Helenians, also known as ‘Saints’, are known for their friendliness; everyone waves and greets each other, even to passing cars.

    Saints are renowned for their hospitable nature.  Getting involved in our local social life will give you an insight into how vibrant, fun and welcoming we are.”

    - So naturally Catherine is greeted with open arms and is loving her vacation!

    - Time for Catherine to RUN her full marathon on St. Helena!Festival of Running, St. Helena

    Sure is a beautiful Island!st. helena

    This is one of the most hilly, up and down routes in excruciating HEAT! But you know what…….festival of running, st. helena

    Catherine DID IT! AND….She got her SHIRT! (they made a special one for her)

    AND she made the Islanders PROUDShe made her dad proud

    And I sure hope 42km later, she made HERSELF proud

    WAY TO GO CATHERINE!! (All of us at The Right Shoe are EXTREMELY proud of you!)

  • Hey!

    PHEWF! Yesterday was just one of those days. I was a little bit of a Negative Nancy and it seemed that I had challenges one after another. It was just about time for me to go for my run with the club and I was NOT feeling it. Boo, nooo… I wanna stay home and sulk…But I knew I had to go. Cliche story that’s been told a hundred times…but yes,  once I got into the run/finished the run… I felt like a brand new person. I was talking to a couple girls I run with and I was telling them my pre run hesitations. They said that the same thing happens to them… and we concluded that: THE TIME YOU FEEL LEAST LIKE RUNNING/EXERCISING IS WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST! I concur. I think the same is for taking a break when your super busy. If you just WAAY TO BUSY TO TAKE A BREAK, THAT’S WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST.

    Speaking of breaks… I booked a hair appointment for next wed… and my hair stylist is in the states (here’s the story of WHY I get my hair done across the border)….In Bellingham… Why not go the day before and make a trip out of it? Am I right or am I right? So ya, we are leaving Tuesday and staying the night in Bellingham to do some shopping, relaxing and me getting my hair done…

    I decided to go to a Bikram’s yoga class this morning (the HOT yoga)! It was a HARD class! I had to sit down a few times while the others carried on, I was just too hot and felt like I was either going to throw up or pass out!! Here is a guide of all the moves you do in one class.  You do each move twice. The diagram makes it look easy- but I assure you it’s not! 

    When I got there and unrolled my mat, OOPS! My yoga mat was filthy from the last time I did an outdoor bootcamp

    I did some research online and the best tips I found were:

    1. Wash your mat in mild detergent and baking soda if you have more stubborn stains.  So I pulled out the mildest and only detergent I own (Tide),

    2. Baking soda helps with stubborn stains (which I never ended up using)

    3. Use a scrubber (I would have preferred a scrubber, but all I had was this j cloth)

    4. You can put it in the washer on low too, but I used my tub:)

    5. Pour over a bit of your “mild” detergenthow to wash your yoga mat

    6. Put your stopper in and start scrubbinghow to wash a yoga matGood arm workout, hahawash yoga mat

    And wipe excess water off and then hang to dry!hang your yoga mat to dry after cleaning

    YAY! Good job! All done:)

    Now that my mat is happily dryer in my bathroom, the next time I hit up yoga, I won’t offend any other yogi’s!

    I’m going for coffee tonight with Andrea, and Mike and I are going for a coffee right now..UH OH..

    March.1! Welcome!  A day I pay rent, get paid and FEATURE my Tomboy That Wears Makeup Of The Month… She is RAD…. and maybe needs a bit more time answering the questions..That’s ok!!!

    In the meantime, I want to say THANK YOU to all the TTWM of Month since I started this blog

    September was Tennis player/model Liis Sober

    October was Jazz singer Jackee Guilou

    November we had rock star bass player Alison Toews

    December was fitness pro/model Svetlana Romanova

    January we had the founder of Operation Beautiful/blogger Caitlin Boyle

    February we had the beautiful, funny all star runner Skinny Runner

    I guess that means I have been blogging for just over 6 months! Time flies! Having this blog has definitely impacted my life in a positive way. Sure I have to think up things to write everyday, but it keeps me on my toes!

    I made it downstairs to do some laps this morning for my triathlon training. I set out for 40 laps and settled for 25. I think I am FINALLY improving my kick. (just call me crazy legs!) I’ve been having a hard time with getting the proper kicking technique down- but I think I’m finally getting into a groove!

    Like that I am always wearing the same green cap and blue suit in every swim shot?  Tonight I am running with the club, we are do a tempo run. We are supposed to keep our “race pace” for 20 minutes… It will be a good run I reckon.

    Who wants to make some awesome veggie soup??? I got this recipe from here.

    Ingredients I used (really you can use anything, but make sure to have the “root veggies”)

    Yam

    Sweet Potato

    Regular potato (I used 2 small red potato’s)

    garlic

    ginger

    onion

    peas

    corn

    beans

    brocoli

    cauliflower

    celery

    turnip

    beet

    red pepper

    Veggie Stock

    huge can of tomato’s (diced, crushes, whatev’s!)

    You can also keep the big pot in your fridge and just bring it out, throw it on the stove whenever you want some (good for about a week I’d imagine- unless you freeze)

    C. Chore you hate: Carrying the groceries from the car to the house. I can hike for 6 days in the wilderness with my food on my back- But I still hate carrying in groceries for some odd reason

    W. What makes you run late: Things that inspire me, or doing things on the computer… like this abc game… I am now behind schedule for the day… but that’s ok…:) Oh- and finding something to wear/doing makeup…stuff like that..

    Now onto the next segment of this post…. WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS!

    Let me set up the scene- It’s Sunday night, I’m tired, ready for bed- I take a look at my makeup brushes and I twitch because I know that I need to wash them!!!

    So I start to wash them and all is going well…I set them out to dry

    I start to wash out the bowl that was full of the ever effective brush washer (baby shampoo) and the bowl slipped from outta my fingers SMASH!

    Aww man… and this wasn’t one of those clean breaks where it was all in big pieces, this was a shatter/shard fest! Glass everywhere…. Piece by piece, even found a few more this morning, after I thought I got it all cleaned up…No one was hurt and WOW- it forced me to clean the bathroom.. It’s a loss/win situation.

    What else??? UMMM….I made some flipping good soup last night!! It is based on the recipe from here. I made a step by step video I will post tomorrow!

    So now… we have soup for breakfast…..soup for dinner….. soup for lunch….soup for brunch…. soup for EVER… haha.

    Speaking of eating really healthy food, I am excited as I just signed up for the THE 12TH ANNUAL HEALTHY CHEF COMPETITION here in Vancouver at the Hyatt! It’s on March 16 at 6:30pm.healthy chef competition, vancouverA bunch of hotels, restaurants and culinary schools get together for a little “healthy” competition to see who can come up with the yummiest, healthiest meals!
